I wish I'd be able to actually go, but it doesn't look like I can take the time off work.

    Dying Kegged Beer Green

I say get a couple of things of green food coloring and have someone either put a drop or two in the cup while filling from the keg or walk around putting drops in cups of beer (although in today's environment, people might think you're slipping them rohypnol so be careful). You don't want...

How hard is it to mini-mash...possibly my third brew

It's not nearly as difficult as it seems at first. The simplest all-grain / mini-mash instructions I've ever seen are here.. http://cruisenews.net/brewing/infusion/page1.php This page was what convinced me that I didn't need this to go all grain ( No offense to MonsterMash intended, I'm...

    Full Boils quick question

Stick with the extract for your first brew unless you have an experienced brewer there to walk you through. You're going to be trying to remember all of the steps, adding any more is sure to confuse the situation. Go with the extract recipe, learn the steps, gain some confidence, then move on...

    General Newbie Brewing Questions

Saying that people that use malt extracts aren't brewing is like saying that someone who uses canned spaghetti sauce isn't cooking. The process is still called cooking and still yields good results. I used extract for my first several beers, but for my own reasons decided to go all-grain...

    Full Boils quick question

When switching from a partial boil to a full boil, make sure you change your aeration techniques. With a partial boil, you probably don't pay much attention to aeration because the top off water contains oxygen, and the act of pouring into the wort adds more oxygen if you splash while doing it...

    AHA Nationals

I'm entering 4 beers. I'm entering a pale ale, a brown ale, an orange pale ale, and a blueberry brown ale. The two fruit beers obviously are using the two main beers as the base. This will be my first contest ever. What can I say, I've never believed in "working up" to something. You...

    Homebrew Shop advice

Don't give the brew-on-premises too much thought. They take WAY too much initial investment and rarely pay for themselves. There's a reason why most go out of business fairly quickly. You could host new brewer parties, lessons, seminars, discussion panels, etc. Don't overlook the power...

    gravity question

In that case, go ahead. It will finish out in secondary and you'll be fine. :D

    gravity question

3-4 bubbles per minute is still active fermentation. If you bottle that now... BOOOOM. I've had a brew take 12 days to finish fermenting. Leave it until that airlock is inactive then take your reading and bottle.

    Low Alcohol %??

At what temperature did you take your original gravity reading? A liquid's density is lower at higher temperatures. If you took your initial reading near the boiling point, you'd be off by about .035 putting your initial gravity at about 1.046. Unless you bought a kit for a 3 gallon...

How do you clean your wort chiller?

Garden hose with spray nozzle. Simple. Effective.

    Molasses as an adjunct

I used 12 oz. in the boil of a stout that I made. It took about a month in the bottle to mellow out, but once it did it added a great flavor that was there but not in your face. I'll probably do it again.

Racked into Secondary tried tasting, didnt taste much alcohol...

Carbonation has a lot to do with mouthfeel (whether it seems watery or thick). Tasting the beer when it's flat will often seem watery. The right amount of carbonation will fill out the beer. If you want to test this, go buy a commercial ale, pour it into a glass, put it in the refridgerator...

    Christmas Ale FG question

1.011 and 1.012 are close enough. Minor differences in method/ingredients can easily account for the difference. If it tastes good, go ahead and bottle it. Skip the secondary, it's been sitting long enough to clarify (which is all the secondary is typically used for anyway). I'd rack...

    Repitch at bottling?

I brewed a Belgian Dubbel about 6 weeks ago and it's been in secondary for about 5. Do you think that enough yeast has fallen out of suspension due to the long time in secondary that I should pitch more at bottling? I'm thinking about stirring a pack of Safale 56 dry yeast in at bottling...

    Solvent for Printed bottles?

That is actually glass not paint on those style of bottles. Basically, they paste the colored sand to the bottle in the print that's desired, then fire it in a kiln to turn it to glass. No way to take glass off of glass.

    Tap-A-Draft

Do they make nitrogen cartridges that will fit the tap-a-draft?

    Twist top bottles

On a lot of twist off bottles the neck is weaker. This means that you may break some bottles during bottling and have to throw out the beer since you don't know if broken glass got in the beer. I thought I could make it work by twisting the original caps back on the bottles, but that doesn't...

propane burner useage on wood deck?

If you're worried about it, I second this notion. $11 for a 3'x5' piece of concrete board to put under the burner sounds well worth it for the peace of mind.
