    I want in!

Just buy bottles when you have other things to buy, and the shipping will feel less painful spread out over a larger area.

    I want in!

Whatever you do, for the love of god, make sure you have a hydrometer. Most kits come with it, but nearly every question you'll ever ask will be answered with "what is the hydrometer reading?" "did you take a reading?" and so forth. Congrats!:mug:

    Recipe Question

I just ordered those exact things today for the first time, for a recipe I found online based around an extract kit I already had. I spent some hours on the weekend searching and reading and browsing online for the recipe and such. I used midwestsupplies.com since the shipping zone is pretty...

    Water Filtration

Check google for your municipality or county or regional water boards website. They will have their readings listed. I was pretty surprised at how many details my county water boards website had. It includes various natural springs and their quality and so forth for area well using citizens...

    Fermention with coopers canadian blonde

I found your photo from looking around. I think that there is a minimum number of posts rule, where you have to have X number of posts before it lets you use the img tag. So I think I will just have to post a link to it, lol...

First taste of first brew! Also newb question on trub formation.

Ok well, it's been a week now so I took that hydrometer reading. It's at 1016 right now. There is still obvious pressure up on the airlock, but it stopped bubbling after 4 days or so. It's going to sit there and finish for another week before I bottle it, and I think on this one I will use a...

Why Would I Want a Wort Chiller?

With a small submersible water pump you could just lay it in there and plug it in. voila done. Hydroponics shops have them for cheap (lots of other food safe hoses, fittings and such as well).

    Secondary Fermenter

I am going to pick up a Wine Thief as they call them. You sanitize it, insert it into the liquid, it fills up enough to slip the hydrometer in and read it. Seems really handy to me since it's 1 piece, and doubles as a hydrometer tube! edit: hey I even found a thread here about it. The glass...

    Secondary Ferment and Bottling

A 6.5 gallon primary fermenter is only like 15 bucks with airlock, so I'm going to go with another instead of a carboy. Based on my reading, today's yeasts are so much more predictable that it takes away the *need* for a secondary. Although they still have several good uses. Heck, once you...

First taste of first brew! Also newb question on trub formation.

I need to buy a secondary or two so I can get some stock built up! All I have is the basic coopers kit, no secondary. I have a case of 22 ounce bottles on the way, and I think I may pick up some grolsch bottles as well when I get more secondary and bottling gear.

    Bottling on the cheap side

Aw heck, unscrewing a cap makes me remember skipping school, getting some quarts of Miller, fishing with found lines and hooks, and cooking fresh rock bass over an open fire. Err.. I mean.. I read that in a book once.. yeah thats what it was.

First taste of first brew! Also newb question on trub formation.

Ok, will do. I dont know that I have the patience for waiting and waiting.. I'm just on foot and it's heavy to carry beer a mile from the store every week. My krausen formation was strong and hyperactive, probably because I cant get the basement cooled down in the warm temps we have right...

First experience with liquid yeast, having problems!

Turn off the Barry White music so they'll stop multiplying and start eating, hehe. Good luck!

    cleaning a coleman cooler

The good oxiclean I've found on the laundry/cleanser aisle at the supermarket. The one with the green lid, Oxiclean Free. No perfumes or bleaches. About 8 bucks or so.

Organization tips, AKA how to get SWMBO off my case!

Do they sell a cabinet system made for pegboard? Or maybe use one of those long wallpaper trays for your spoons, siphons, hydrometers.. rest it on some pegs higher than your wives eye level maybe? Good luck

    Cheat Fermentor

The Coopers micro brew kit is recycle code #2 if it helps.

how much head room do you leave at the top of your bottles?

How long do you need to chill the bottles in the fridge before you open it to allow the co2 to enter the beer? 24 hours long enough?

    Need some airlock help

Ok, I'm newb, but I've heard of people using condoms. Might need to use it on the carboy, stretch over opening, wait for CO2 to inflate it, then use a pin to pierce the very tip. Is it viable, or just trash talk?
