I'd do a batch w/ no secondary fermentation (maybe a Hefe). Do it in the ale pail, take the carboys out of the equation (hopefully you haven't tried this).
Are they just wine bottles? I have one from a bottle that I drank and you can put a regular crown cap on them no problem.
I'm having trouble finding a source online.
I live a block from the one in Phoenixville :drunk: Tim Stumpf (brewer) is a really nice guy who has offered guidance and help w/ some homebrewing questions I've had. Great beer & food.
I noticed the same thing - but there is no sparge which results in a poorer brewhouse efficiency. Set your efficiency to something like 55 or 60% and it drops the OG estimate.
I just got two of these:
Trend Bimetal Thermometer 0-250° F 1/4" NPT NEW - eBay (item 380140353323 end time Aug-16-09 11:27:35 PDT)
They have 1/4"NPT threads, which can be easily adapted to 1/2"NPT with a bushing.
I have 4 first year Centennial plants. One got to the top of my 15' trellis and continues to grow and has cones everywhere! There's a second with a lot of buds about 9' up and the other two are only about 6' w/ very little bud action.
