    Lansing brewers

I've just moved up to the Duck Lake area. Still trying to get the house in order, so haven't had much time for brewing. Maybe not until September. I may be interested in something around then. I'm just about 30 minutes south of Lansing. I may be interested in a general meet up sooner.

    Stir plate magnets reversing polarity

I had to have a pretty thick spacer so the magnets didn't overpower the fan. I haven't used anything but a 1", so I don't know if that'll help or not.

    Stir plate magnets reversing polarity

Slow down your starting speed. I have read that 1" bars are easier to keep from spinning off.

    DIY Fail...

If that is your power ON switch in the first pic, I think you have it mis-wired. The wire from the power supply should be on one of the middle connections, and the wire to the fan should be on the normally open connection on the same side of the switch.

Bottling day and short of 5 gallons in the pail

Exactly. If it is more than just a little, consider increasing the amount of ingredients to keep your numbers in line. Starting gravity, IBUs, etc. There are quite a few online calculators that will help you with this.

Bottling day and short of 5 gallons in the pail

Bottle what you have. No need to be greedy and water your beer down trying to get more volume.

    Igloo cooler ?

I know about it, it's just the way I've always done it. It's just as easy for me to just dump a gallon or two hot faucet water in the cooler and let sit while I'm heating sparge water. I've just never tried the extra hot sparge water. I may sometime in the near future. It would save the...

I've built a very efficient foam machine

Also, make sure you open your faucet all the way. Don't try to 'slow the pour' by only opening the faucet a little.

Sigh - stupid Q from new AG brewer. All grains into the mashtun for 60 min?

From the article: The idea was to find a way to extract the favorable flavors from dark specialty grains, but leave behind the harsh characteristics, giving the brewer a greater level of control over the color of the beer. So, apparently, it does both.

    Hello and thanks

FWIW, my (hopefully near future) plans include a separate, small volume, vessel for the HERMS coil.

    Hello and thanks

Check out the Electric threads. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f170/ I think the risk of scorching is not that great in a properly designed RIMS system. Seems like the people who use RIMS love it and swear by it and the people who use HERMS swear by it and love it.
