"polishing your keg" is more than a clever euphemism

Forgive me if it has already been addressed, I didn't read all 66 pages of this thread. I'm wondering if anyone had problems getting the backing plate onto your grinder spindle? The fit is so tight on mine I can't get the backing plate down to get the nut even close to the threads. What am I...

Best way to clean scorched wort

Holy cow, vinegar did the trick. For $0.79, a 32 oz bottle gave me about a quarter inch in the kettle. I put the stove flame as low as it would go (cool enough that I could still put my hand in), and gave it about 5 minutes. The old caramelized light brown stuff came off right away, but the...

Best way to clean scorched wort

It's a stainless kettle. I'll give the oxyclean and barkeeper's friend a shot. Thanks!

Upgrade from 10 Gal to 25 Gal - Wort Chiller Question

If I understand you right (if not, just ignore me), you're thinking about building a CFC without a thermometer on the wort output and you would test it before running wort? I would suggest springing for the tee fitting and thermometer, since your ground water temp. (or ice water recirculation)...

Best way to clean scorched wort

I rushed my brew today and turned on the gas before my extract was fully dissolved. I normally don't use LME, but I figured I could turn on just one burner to medium-low while I added LME to the other side of the kettle and stirred (my kettle sits over two burners on a gas stove). I was wrong. I...

Bottom drain vs dip tube keggle MLT

That turned out really nice :mug: I didn't get around to reading the second half of that thread until just now.

Bottom drain vs dip tube keggle MLT

Good to know. What kind of false bottom are you using?

Bottom drain vs dip tube keggle MLT

I am weighing pros and cons of two keggle MLT designs as I embark on my first recirculation mashes. The bottom drain (keg upside down, with bottom cut out) with a TC fitting, elbow and nipple like this... https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/sankebdrain5.htm Or the more common hinged/domed...

Indiana Stainless Tanks 19gal and 17gal Stainless Burner

It'd be nice to see pictures on this thread. Can't seem to find what you're describing in your photo bucket album.

    What would you do differently?

The stainless brew stand is something I hadn't thought about. You're referring to aesthetics right? Steel brew stands function just fine, but they don't look as nice as SS? Also, forgive my ignorance but what is CFC?

    What would you do differently?

I've been brewing for about 18 months using mostly kits (DME + specialty grains) put together by my LHBS. As one does, I have been growing into better equipment and processes. I am anticipating a big step to get off the stove top and switch to AG pretty soon. I acquired a couple of kegs, cut the...

    foamy pours

They fit pretty snugly. The 3/16 line slides into the copper pipe easy enough, but not too loose that it slides off. Plus I stuffed a good deal of foam (also at Lowes for about $2) into the tower. Same thing with the Ts. The whole thing disassembles easily but it's not fragile. I can swivel the...

Perlick 630SS Double Faucet Tower - A good deal, or too good to be true?

Man that's a hell of a deal. I was reading on another thread some folks even got a 20% discount off that price. You guys let me know that you think of this tower. Only complaint I have so far is that I get a little delayed dispensing after I shut off the tap. Older guys will know what I'm...

    foamy pours

I'm not sure the exact lengths, but four 1 ft sections is about right. I bought a tube cutter ($13) and length of 1/2" copper pipe from Lowes that was 4-5 ft long. Fits 3/16 line perfectly. You don't need to solder or anything, just fit them together and they stay. It keeps the tower nice and...

    foamy pours

I second the copper pipe into the tower method. I put a T on mine to get more copper into the fridge and double wrapped the pipe with foam in the tower. I'm serving at 39 degrees and 10 PSI, with 5' of 3/16 liquid line.

too much foam, been bleeding keg?!

Google or search this forum for "keg balancing" information. There are several factors at play, but it's not overly complicated. It all comes into focus after about 15 minutes of reading. Btw, ID refers to your beer lines. It means inside diameter. What I would do, after reading about keg...

Perlick 630SS Double Faucet Tower - A good deal, or too good to be true?

Mine arrived Friday. Looks fantastic, and I can't wait to get it going. I guess I'll be upgrading the lines, since the consensus seems to be that they impart a nasty flavor, and because it's so cheap to do. I'll have to read more about draft line length before I do that though.

Perlick 630SS Double Faucet Tower - A good deal, or too good to be true?

I'm building my first kegerator and I was wondering about this tower too. Seems like too good a deal when you consider that's about $120 worth of faucets, right? Any reason I shouldn't buy this tower?

Indiana 5 gallon Ball Lock Corny Keg

Is this keg still available? I'm in Indiana, not far from FW, so I'd pick it up locally.
