Forks over Knives documentary on disease

I think the biggest take away I have learned after reading all about various diets (paleo, vegan, warrior, abs, mediteranean, etc) and listening to the back and forth on cholesterol, eggs, vitamins is that no one knows jack about how our complex bodies use and process its food or what its...

Forks over Knives documentary on disease

Not trying to be a naysayer as I agree with a lot of the film...like this blogger. However, I did read some of the studies dissected by this review and she has some very good points on how the story was twisted to make their points. A VERY good counterpoint read for those of you who are into...

    Just moved to Charlotte, NC!!

Hey folks. Been a member here for awhile, been brewing for awhile. But I just moved to Charlotte and am looking to meet some other brewers. Anyone out there?

    Do you have an accent?

For those of you from Michigan...or if you just wanna chuckle, check this site out. They todally nail the Michigan accent. http://www.michigannative.com/ma_about.shtml

    Pressure differential?

I agree with d_t. Definitely take a look at that line. You can do the swap, but I'm 99% sure you'll see the problem still since the kegs are all stored together and you've seen the problem across multiple kegs. If you get the chance, report back on any kinks as well as the line lengths on...

    Pressure differential?

You need to check a couple things to start. First would be to pull out a thermometer and actually measure the temperature of each beer. Ensure that the kegs had all been in the cooler for 24 hours to avoid agitation issues and to get the temps the same. This will tell you if you have a...

Understanding Pressure and Lines on Kegs

The accuflex lines are lined with PET (I believe that's the line discussed elsewhere). The PET has a much lower coefficient of friction requiring a much longer line to recreate the resistance in a shorter non-coated line like most people use. He just has to adjust the line length down to...

Direct Brew Kettle Ventilation - No Hood

Interesting concept and I like the simplicity of it. The only variable is cooling water flow. I wonder how much water and what sort of temps are necessary to get this to work...might have to break out some of my old chem eng math for this one to see if its even feasible on the small scale...

Direct Brew Kettle Ventilation - No Hood

Great ideas... I am actually liking the idea of the slightly larger conical top to eliminate the condensation issue and allow for makeup air. That may be the ticket versus a huge overhead hood. I bet you can run significantly lower CFM with a direct draw system than the overhead hood and save...

Direct Brew Kettle Ventilation - No Hood

I'd still put a blower in-line to get that air moving. It would just require a smaller unit and be more focused.

Direct Brew Kettle Ventilation - No Hood

Good point...I wonder how the big guys do it? I would think its possible to mitigate that if the vent dips down right away, making the low point NOT the kettle. I'm sure there's some way to make it easier to clean. I just see hoods as being inefficient. I'll have to see if I can find a...

Direct Brew Kettle Ventilation - No Hood

I thought I would post here since most of the ventilation threads apply to coming indoors with electric brewing as I am doing. Currently I am just hijacking the kitchen like back in the day with a basic extract on the stove. It got me thinking how to remove the moisture if I move to the...

PVC for a mash tun manifold?

I use CPVC as well. I tried to have a version that wasn't completely glued together for ease of cleaning. That failed. I recommend complete gluing. As to the temp rating of 180F. That rating is calculated for pressurized hot water lines. The mash tun manifold is not under pressure, so...

Brewtarget is great. I use it all the time.

    Substitute for Oxyclean and PBW

Oxiclean is sodium carbonate (washing soda) and sodium percarbonate (which does the oxygen bleaching as a peroxide). I would think you could find washing soda available anywhere. I use washing soda to clean around the house too.

    Draft system balancing

I love this topic and am always amazed at the misinformation that propagates around the web... Here are my 2 cents. The pressure never changes. Don't play the serve at 4-5 psi, store at proper pressure game. At 39F (the typical commercial beer cooler) many beers will be carbed up properly...

    PWM..Show us How

I guess I should have been more clear. It appeared in the wiring diagram that one leg of the 240 amp service was feeding the wall wart. Was this wired up to an outlet that is plugged in or directly to a transformer? I was hoping to attach my toolbox to the 240 and do all the wiring inside, so...

    PWM..Show us How

How did you wire up the wall wart adapter? Did you take it apart or just wire to the prongs? That part has me confused.
