    taste ;) at least that's what i've heard - could be that baking strains have been modified (just like brewing strains have) to the point where they wouldn't make an effective brewers' yeast, but the bigger concern (IMHO) would be taste as the yeast contribute more to the taste than most folks...

    if you've got the room I'd do it with the chest freezer & a new thermostat, then its really just a matter of making sure you dont drill through any freon lines. the mini-fridges are cool but expensive, i built mine out of an older fridge (one with the old alum box freezer that's not seperate)...

    well, i use c-brite, but its probably the same exact thing as diluted chlorine when it comes down to it - i just use it cause my brother seems to have an unending supply of it so its free ;) , and doesn't seem to leave any off tastes around

    Strange problem in my brew today - help!

    old DME is my guess, i had a batch do that once, just poured it through a fine mesh to break it up and boiled the whole thing again once i noticed the problem....i think the DME got some moisture into the bags before brew day and clumped on its own, and those clumps seemed to want to stay...

    did you boil it all as one batch? the only thing i could think of was if you used the same recipe, but did seperate boils maybe you had a little change in the one batch? so that maybe you ended up with different protein levels or something? beyond that - you got me! :confused...
