    Dunkle failure?

Haha that is hilarious. Ok, I'll go take a FG and report back my findings. Potentially stupid question: Do I need to drain out the gas from the keg and take a sample directly from the keg? Or can I pour a beer the normal way then take a reading from that?

    Dunkle failure?

...no (bashful) I guess I just assumed it was done, since the recipe called for 7 days and it's been sitting there for 18 days or so. I didn't track the ferment temperatures. I left the bucket in my basement which tends not to fluctuate too much; the previous IPA I brewed did fine down there...

    Dunkle failure?

Hi everyone, About 2 weeks and change ago I brewed a dunkle and when I was pushing the airlock into the lid the plastic ring fell into the brew. I freaked, thinking I may have contaminated it but my buddy said it would be fine, so we made a makeshift sanitized plastic shield and covered it...

    Spices in a dunkle?

Good point, TopherM. I'm not really sure how this batch will come out; definitely did not temp control this one, just put it in my basement which seemed to work out fine for the previous IPA. I'll still have 4 gallons of the non-spiced dunkel, I guess since I'm just getting started (and esp...

    Spices in a dunkle?

Awesome! I'll pick up a carlo rossi jug, that sounds like the quickest / easiest solution.

    Spices in a dunkle?

Thanks for the clarification, I'll be sure to use an airlock. Do you know if a typical airlock (like the standard one in a kit) fits a five liter wine jug? I like both those ideas! Thanks for the suggestions guys.

    Spices in a dunkle?

Hi all, I just started on my second kit this past weekend, a Dunkelweizen. Everything went perfect until the very last step, when I was inserting the air lock into my lid I accidentally pushed the little rubber ring through the lid and into the beer. Whoops. I wrapped the airlock with...

    First time brewer!

Hiya folks, Just thought I'd register and say hi. I just completed my first brew, an IPA from a kit and it turned out really smashing! I'm very happy with it. I'm now hard at work on a Dunkleweizen. Looking forward to learning more from this forum and hopefully moving beyond starter kits...
