    DIY Fermenting chest build

The fermenter is in the garage, so no added heat to the apartment proper. I have a window AC in my bedroom, but hate to turn it on too often because it adds about $50 to the electric bill. My solution is to relax in the garage during the summer heat- the keezer in the last photo now has 3 taps...

    DIY Fermenting chest build

I've learned so much from trolling these forums over the years, I thought I should show off some of the stuff I have built using tips learned from this awesome forum. I was having trouble keeping my brews at manageable fermenting temps because my apartment does not have AC during the summer...

    OK, this is really gross

Did you use starsan? I left a bottling bucket with starsan out for a while(because I got lazy/drunk and didn't want to empty it and rinse it out) and found that it collected a few springtime moths that seem to like my apartment. I now put out a cup of starsan(diluted of course) every time I see...

    Better Bottle Failure

Meh, this explains why my two BBs cracked within 3 batches each. I also left them sitting with PWB for extended periods of time, but assumed that the cracks had formed from shaking them. Both developed cracks on the bottom where the plastic is thickest, which points away from the PWB being the...

    Keeping a Champagne punch carbonated?

I would think that a champagne punch would have a much lower level of carbonation than straight champagne because of the fruit juices and such. I would probably just go with the same pressure my beer is at and call it a grand experiment. I don't think I'd much like a punch at a champagne level...

Deep Six Brewery - back in action!

wow, just... WOW! And to think I can't even afford a 2 bedroom townhouse out here in Kalifornia. Gonna have to find an aerospace engineering job somewhere where the median home price is less than 1 mil and housing codes allow brewhouses (don't lie, there is no way you can call that awesomeness...

    Keezer Gas Line Protocol

I usually just leave everything on until the kegs are dry, and with luck I have replacement kegs to put on. I use a distribution block so I can just turn on the lines going to full kegs. There's really not much point in turning the gas off and on while you have beer in the kegerator. +1 to...

Trying to solve the carboy problem

I did a test of that truck bed liner a while ago on a wine glass. Dropped it four times which turned the glass inside into sand- the bed liner held its shape perfectly. I would paint this on all my carboys but it's about $30 per quart. I've been transitioning to fermenting in cornies instead...

Primary Fermenting in a Corny Keg

Yeah, forgot to update this when I found out, but that was the first time I used that keg and it had a pinhole leak in the weld around the base. Wasn't a poppet problem like I thought.

DIY CFC is "high temp" hose necessary

My CFC has a garden hose outside and I pump boiling wort through the inner copper coil for 15 minutes minimum every batch without problems. Sure it gets hot, but once i turn on the water it cools off quick and hasn't presented any problems in the 3 years I've been using it.

CO2 line size, does the ID/OD size matter?

I'd definitely agree with P-J here, 3/16 lines really matter for beer line but CO2 can be whatever you want. I use 5/16 lines for all my CO2 mainly because thats how my setup started and it got difficult to change. That said, I have often come across the problem of needing to rig up new...

Converting a corny keg into a fermenter

I have used cornies to ferment in using gas QDs with the tube linking to airlocks, make sure those gas connections are set properly. One of mine didn't engage the poppet properly and pressurized the corny pretty quickly. the pressure relief valve kicked in though and prevented any major...

Keezer: Mount Love Controller in Collar

The silver stuff is ducting insulation, I'm adding it over the foam so I can clean it easily since these keezers can sometimes get a little funky. The orange tape is Kapton, I used it because it sticks really well and I had a spare roll lying around. I'm only adding this ducting on the foam...
