    used keg morals

i think thats a moot point, i don't think people should set their moral code by the above, IMO its the ultimate cop out.

    used keg morals

im not from the states so take what i say with a pinch of salt. There was a similar scenario on a thread not so long ago basically someone pointed out that the deposit paid for a keg doesn't cover the true cost of a keg, its simply the maximal amount they are allowed to charge as a deposit. So...

    Most overrated high priced beers

Yeah SF, i pretty much just drink smithwicks and bass (both decent ales) and newkie brown in bottles when out and about. Just think its a shame that a country thats famed for its pub culture has such a paucity of choice. That said i think the people you are drinking with etc is more important...

    Most overrated high priced beers

Their tends to be a lot of nonsense talked about guiness. The usual myth is that it tastes better in Dublin, then its good in ireland and its rubbish everywhere else. It isn't, i've drank it all over the place and apart from the odd rubbish pint (probably the pipes haven't been cleaned) they are...

Styles you could recognize by taste

Scotch ales should be very malty with very little hopping. Those thrifty scots didn't like to pay for the english hops (hops don't grow as well in scotland as southern england).

Styles you could recognize by taste

I didn't realise ESB was a style, over here its just a beer made by fullers.

What to brew for the general public?

What about caroline ale? Nothing but Mariss otter, EKG for biterring and late hops, nothing fancy just hops at 60 mins and hops with 10-15 mins to go. Will satisfy the ale drinkers and lager drinkers and will go down real easy :mug:

    Oxygenation through Bottling Wand.

The beer will be depleted of oxygen during the initial ferment but will be full of dissolved CO2, almost certainly what you are seing is CO2 coming out of solution. If you think of it that way its actually benefical, that released CO2 will fill up the head space between the beer and the cap...

    Weighing Hops

try being a heretic and converting to metric for weighing hops, most scales (at least the ones over here) have the option of weighing ounces or grams. The ounce is usually broken into quarters and eighths with an expensive good set. If you use grams (28 grams to the ounce roughly) then you have...

Longest time in the secondary for your ales?

i'd have to agree with the above definition, makes sense!! Thats why i just go to the keg which acts as the conditioning/clearing tank if you like.

    pagan?

The one thing i can't understand about modern day christianity is the inability of some to see that the bible is allegorical and NOT LITERAL, my advice, run from anyone who states that it is, cause you will most likely be in the company of a mentalist. Who really believes that the world is...

    Cider Contamination?

if you can honestly, honestly taste strong vinegar then its fupped (i know you want to hold onto the notion its ok, i'v been there!!) if its only mildly acetic ie still drinkable keg it (acetobacter can't grow without oxygen) and think about taking a leaf out of the juice fermentors and add 1...
