    Maryland HBT.com Meetup

I'm beginning to think I'm the only one who DID receive my email. I got it a week ago, it contains a link to the page where you go and print out your thing. Did everyone check their spam filters?

    Heresy!!!!

With their keys? What the hell? Sissies... Use your damn teeth or go home!

    Dead yeast as nutrient

You are generally looking for something called yeast hulls or "ghosts" (I think that product is brand-named as Ghost-ex?). Generally, I'd wait and put it in once it's transferred from brew-pot to primary; boiling the hulls might damage something? But generally, beer shouldn't need it. Wine...

    Open to suggestions!

Aye, for the money, the time-frame, and the summer season, you can scarce go wrong with a hefe. Just make sure to give it some room to bubble... that beer was the first one to explode my bucket (back when I used buckets for primaries). It's quite vigorous.

Obvious trick I found - just a quick tip

Nice- those are all fairly good ideas... I've never tried sucking off the foam. Does it help over the course of a couple of days? Also- doing primary in a 6.5 carboy is perfectly fine- it's prevented many an explosion for me.

The Police and the Porn Star

Star? Being a little generous, I think. "Up and coming"... *COUGH* So to speak. :p

    Harry Potter Butterbeer

I have found with extracts (especially vanilla extract as in the original caramel cream ale), you may be best to leave it til bottling- that way you have a somewhat better idea of what the overall composition of the brew is. (For instance, at boil, it's very sweet and hard to judge). Also...

    Harry Potter Butterbeer

OK, this is my operating recipe. I've cut down on IBUs to bring it into the wheat-beer model, due to my audience (mass-market to many people who "don't like beer". I'm also experimenting with herbs/spices, as you see below.

    What program

Nice- yeah, there's still a ton of stuff I'm learning abotu GIMP, but I've only spent, like, 2 or 3 hours actually learning stuff (as opposed to actively trying to make labels), and have produced such labels as the Hatch-Battener Barleywine and the Treble-Strength Butterbeer. What I need...

My new addition to the gun safe......

Ooh yeah, levers are fun. My one (and so far only) experience with guns was using a .22 in a quarry covered in 4 feet of snow... setting up cans of V8 Splash and blowing hell out of 'em. They make nice red/orange explosions.

    Farmhouse style ale??

My first guess would be a Saison-style. (Very tasty!) (From BrewMonkey.com:) I've never tasted bubble gum in a saison- I don't know that it's a good or a bad thing, but I've not experienced it.

    Promash purchasing problems

It took me a while to hear from them, actually - and I think I also bought it on a Friday night or Saturday. If you don't hear from them by Thursday, send them one more email telling them that you're going to call your CC company- then do it on Friday or Saturday.

    Kegerator - finally!

That sounds nice, man. Looks nice too. I'm trying to figure out where to get a suitable mini-fridge. What are the internal dimensions on yours? Any suggestions on where to get a cheap fridge?
  14. Cap'n Jewbeard

    Harry Potter Butterbeer

OK- first of all, I'll brew it as you've planned it, but I think I'll add a "tea" of some spices in the secondary- a few cloves, probably don't need additional sassafras, maybe some other random herbs I find in the health store. I'll play with it. Also, I've made this label: I did the...

    Harry Potter Butterbeer

That looks really quite nice! I think I'll brew that this week, and get it kegged and ready in time for the book or the movie. Let's compare when it's done! (Specifically, if you put yours in secondary before I do, let me know how the butterscotch plays out). Jewbeard

    Harry Potter Butterbeer

Heh... narf. I'll show YOU my magic wand... narf. Also- perhaps we should include a few (subtle) spices in this? Anyone know what brings out butterscotch well?

Pirates 'o the Baltic - Lithuanian Porter

Man... it's SO good. I had a couple bottles last night. STILL incredible, fresh and tasty. Picked up slight roast-y overtones, a little sweet, full-bodied and luscious... (Is it a problem if I want to make out with my beer right now?) It's Lithuanian because it's based a variety of porter...

    Baltimore Pyrate Invasion!

And let me just add this note from Saturday Night Live (which is not funny, except for this):
  20. Cap'n Jewbeard

    Baltimore Pyrate Invasion!

Let me just reiterate that this will be the most fun ever experienced by the drinking public at large. Ever. C'mon folks, let's show some HBT pride! And then let's drink. And break things.
