all grain on electric stovetop, is it possible?

I have done 6 gal boils on a stovetop. I have a gas stove and a 1200watt heatstick. Once I get the boil going I just turn the stove off. Heat stick puts out plenty to heat. I get a nice rolling boil. The heat sticks work so well that I'm considering going all electric instead of using my...

    Tweaking my recipe

Steeping the 2 row can do lots of things: Depends on the temp and duration of the steeping... Add gravity Lighten the wort mellow out the flavor... Less maltiness Lower your OG/IBU ratio... or what ever it is called. Is the 2 row milled?

Adjusting gravity with DME - need some quick help

Ditto. I just did an almost all grain Stone Ruination clone. My mash tun does not hold the whole grain bill. I just made up the rest with DME. Worked like a champ.

    carbonation question

One thing it could be is, the fermentation was not complete by the time you bottled it. I have opened warm bottles of home brew before and have not had this problem. I do not thinl temp is the main cause of the issue. The down side is... I don't know of a way to fix the issue that you having.

About to re-brew a Cascadian Dark Ale (AG)

I made a CDA and I used Carafa III special. I added it to the mash just before sparging. Added alot of roasted malt/coffee flavor. Too much even. My LHBS has Crisp black malt 675L I would add that instead of the Carafa. Let us know how it turns out.

Cost vs. Labor - Before I do anything!

I just brewed a Stone Ruination clone. Cost $32 Two six packs at the liquor store, $30. So for the additional $2 I now have an additional 38 bottle of brew. I'd say it can be cheaper. On the flip side, I think alot of people on here fall victim to the downward spiral of dumping ridiculous...

    Brew House All Grain Kits

I can't comment on the first question... But, I know austinhomebrew.com has allgrain versions of most if not all of their kits. Based of what I have read and ordered from them, they are pretty spot on. I'd trust what they put together. As for question number two. I have used coopers...

Muntons Dry Beer Yeast NOOB Question

I have used Muntons in the past with good results. We just sprinkled it over the top of the wort and sealed it up. 24hrs later bubbling like mad. Never had a miss using this technique with dry yeast. I have done the same with Safale US-05 also. Best of luck on your brew day.

Getting a better taste from kits

My 2cents... Just because you get a kit does not mean the flavor is going to be inferior to a non kit beer. Austinhomebrew.com sell kits that are extract, partial, all grain, choice of yeaties... My LHBS sell Turebrew band kits. I have made a few. The Hefe.... Awesome. They also sell...

    Unsanitised hydrometer

I have done some pretty dumb/bone headed stuff when brewing... Like not sanitizing a (instert utensil) before. I have not had a batch come out bad yet... Crosses fingers.

Is a 3 gallon batch in a 6 gallon carboy bad?

    1) I have heard that there are people that feel that too much room/head space can be and issue. Me... Never found that to be true. 2) Chuck it. spend the $6 on a new bucket. 3) I feel, Big beers benifit from a little bit of conditioning, esp if really high ABV 12% or so. Takes some of...
