    Photos from your Youth

It might just be Texas, but I'm thinking if Texas does it, then there's a good chance OK and LA do it, too ;-)

    No One Actually Likes Mead

    Which ones??? Tried 'em yet?

    Photos from your Youth

I'll add in this one for all you non-Southerners! I have a few friends from the east coast, and every year they're taken aback by our use of the Homecoming "mum." Supposedly folks outside the South don't have Homecoming mums? Circa 2000-2001. I'm in the middle with the cap on. Going through...

    No One Actually Likes Mead

Texas Mead works is ok. Redstone is much better. The Specs in Creekside carries Redstone. It's been a while since I've bought it there (like 9 months), but I'm sure they still carry. They had their traditional mead, and then a couple of their carbed/lighter meads (called "nectars"), which...

I love this commercial mead, though! Solid products. http://www.redstonemeadery.com/

Hey, thanks! I'm pretty sure the past 15 years of coffee and red wine have dulled those young, white teeth quite a bit :D

Agreed! I like putting a face, albeit a much younger face in this case, to a name!

    No One Actually Likes Mead

Nobody liked my mead. Granted, I never fermented a dry one. They never tasted bad or off, just too damn sweet. Plus, it's expensive to make. I started brewing beer a few months ago in its place and haven't looked back.

I'm 15 here (31 now) at my sister's high school graduation. May of 1999. I probably haven't worn a dress, and for sure not this hat, since! I have no hair now. I'm a pixie.

    In need of good thermometer

Yep! I was a little confused at first, too...especially since that link to the probes doesn't just single out the specific probe I'm referencing. In summary, yes, buy the handheld device (comes with NO probes), and then you can add various different probes that connect to your device. The...

    In need of good thermometer

I just got the Thermoworks Mini Handheld Thermocouple with the PTFE-FEP Waterproof Probe. LOVE IT! Device: http://www.thermoworks.com/products/probe/tc_wire.html And the "PTFE-FEP Waterproof" probe: http://www.thermoworks.com/products/probe/tc_wire.html

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

I just took a hydro sample of mine last night, as well, and it looks light like yours. I also did BIAB, but ended up with the target SG. It tasted a little watered down and slightly "off," too. Can't quite identify the "off" taste; definitely not an infected taste. Hmmmm, curious to see how...

    Buying a scoby question

Hmmmmm, so I just researched that and came across the FoodRenegade post I'm sure you read, too. They're a legit source, so I would trust them. Dude, I'll mail you one. I'm bottling my batch today, so I'll have one to give. PM me your mailing address. Or, if you find yourself in New Braunfels...

What craft beer do you secretly despise?

I recently just tried Stone's Coffee Milk Stout...couldn't finish it. In fact, couldn't even take a third sip. It was horrible (to me), and I love stouts.

    How Do You Aerate?

I use an immersion blender! Works like a charm, lots of foam, easy to use, cheap (if you want it to be - or get a nice one), and also a GREAT kitchen tool to have around. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006JXXBZ8/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Hella Vanilla Cream Ale

Started out a little sharp as previously said, but has mellowed beautifully. Thanks for the recipe! Easy drinker, for sure.

    Need Belgian AG Brew suggestions

I'm a beginner. I have 5 brews under my belt, and I want to brew my first Belgian this weekend. Every Belgian I've had I've really liked, but I'm a novice on the Belgian jargon, i.e. Dubbel, Triple, Quad, Trappist, etc., and which flavors are associated with each type. I like the fairly...
