What is Your Favorite Percentage of Lactose to Use?

1lb per 5 gal. seems to be the standard for most milk stout recipes. I take mine even a little higher, but I like my stouts "sweet."

    Staying Healthy while Brewing

I'm not a twig by any means, but I'm not necessarily overweight, either. However, that's because I make a very conscious effort to keep my weight in check. Also, I'm a foodie and a lover of nutritional science; I LOVE to eat! Through all my experimenting and trials, these are my favorite tips...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

I'm backing Homebrewdad, here...and I didn't even agree with his blog post. Buuuuut, that's not the point! A few of you immediately twisted his words and opinions into some skewed personal attack which resulted in some very immature and unfair comments. It was an opinion piece, people...

    Homebrewing Needs a Woman's Touch

Another perspective from a woman...and this might piss some women off.... I think women are not involved in the BEER homebrewing scene because women (generally speaking, here), especially as we age, seem to fade away from beer and move into wine. You'll see lots of female brewers in the...

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

I feel ya, but our clients are self-employed, rich, private "developers." They love meetings; it gives them something to do and somewhere to go. Productive and necessary meetings? Sure.

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

Meetings...stupid, pointless meetings to make someone feel important for an hour. Same goes for anything "team building" related. Kill. Me. Now. And. Fast.

Things about your co-workers that annoy you

I'm an office manager and my desk is right by the main door. I work with all men (chick, here!), and they feel like they have to give me a reason every time they leave to take a piss...like I give a d@mn?! Just go take a piss, man...we've been in this "marriage" far too long for us to have a...

    Wurstfest Sponsored Homebrew Competition!

For those of you who don't know, New Braunfels, TX is home to Wurstfest, one of the largest beer and sausage celebrations in the US. They just announced their first ever craft beer festival and homebrew competition being held May 9th! Should be a fun time, for sure, and a heads-up for all...

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Haha, not so much to bump up the ABV as kahlua's not that strong, but more so to cut the dryness just a bit with a hint of sweetness. I love to add like a quater to half ounce of kahlua to a pint of stout. It's soooooooooo yummy. Don't ever start, though, because it will ruin you!

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Here it is! Wow, this one surprised me when tasting it super young. I was not so sure about it. But now that it's all carbed up at 5 weeks, I can say it's pretty stellar! Unfortunately, mine finished with an FG of 1.022, so a little short making it pretty low ABV. Also, for my preference, I...

I wish they would bring back ______

I need to give this Firefly a shot. Third random person to suggest it. I've been delaying watching it because, admittedly, I've been judging a book by it's cover on Netflix...

Comparing your home brew to other peoples..

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, too. I'm a noob, and only have 7 brews under my belt, but I like to still think of myself as having a good palate when discerning "good" from "bad." I'm also super proud and confident in my cooking...but that confidence has not transferred over into...

Tips for an old guy trying to learn guitar

First and foremost, building up callouses will be your initial obstacle. It hurts, and the only way to get them built up is to press through the pain and keep playing and playing and playing. Next, goofy fingers will be tough to battle. Don't listen to any crap, or try to convince yourself...
