    Can I legally do this?

You'd need a license the same as if you were selling it I would think.

brewing a lower alcohol beer from a 5 gallon extract kit?

I am finishing up a Coopers Canadian blonde batch that came with coopers brew enhancer 1. This brew (at 23 liters) came in at only 3.99% alcohol. It's really quite light.

Clean up - Splattered wort on stove top

A paste of oxiclean sitting on that overnight wont get it loose? I'd go for Easy Off I think, and hit up the inside of the oven while I was at it I guess.

    Hiccup in the boiling process

It'll be a slightly different kind of delicious I would guess. Maybe a bit darker too if what I remember from researching late extract additions versus early is correct. Also, I think any differences would depend on the volume of the boil to some extent.

Bucket in water to cool - spigot contamination?

I just bottled a batch that had been in a swamp cooler for 19 days in a primary fermenter with a spigot. I keep a sprayer with star san handy, so just sprayed the water once in a while. I used an autosiphon on the beer, but I did use the spigot to harvest some yeast later on. Cleaned it really...

Online store keeping me on edge

I DID end up using some bleach in there, rinsed clean.. repeated. Didnt detect a hint of mouse, lol. Always a plus. :tank:

    washing yeast

Cool, thanks. Yeah I wanted to do it as per the pics and video I found in the yeast forum, but I couldnt find any glass jars large enough for the second decanting step. It seems pretty forgiving, so worth trying.

    washing yeast

I boiled and cooled a gallon of water, dumped it into my fermenter, swished it around really good and let it sit a half hour. I propped it at an angle since my fermenter has a spigot. I tried to line up where the viable yeast band would be with the spigot. Then I let the yeast/slurry dribble...

Online store keeping me on edge

Well, I guess it's over. They asked me to check the slip for the stamps the employees put on there for who picked the order, and who packed the order. Those stamps are completely missing from my slip, so nothing is going to happen. They're shipping me the tubing I said I didnt even think I...

Am I wasting Starsan and water?

I use 1ml in 500ml water. I use RO water. RO water has been stripped of ph buffering ability, so it'll take on whatever the PH is of what you mix it with. So it's no surprise that star san'll stay clear and usable for longer using such water.

Online store keeping me on edge

I was going to use that tote to sterilize my tools in too. Will an overnight soak in oxiclean followed by a soaking in star san remove the stigma of dead mouse? man.. I guess it's a mental hurdle more than a sanitation one... right? isn't it? :drunk:

New here, may have made a fermentation mistake...

Just picture witches stirring brew, the CO2 is fog pouring out of the cauldron. Heavier than air, so it literally fills the bucket the rest of the way, then spills out (or bubbles the airlock).

Online store keeping me on edge

Near my utility sink sits the box that my RO filter came in. The filter has clear housings instead of solid, so I keep the light out by placing it in the box. I had to cut a slot down the face of the box to allow the waste and water tubes out without kinking them. I located the noise as coming...

Online store keeping me on edge

Yeah, it's a nice chemical resistant sprayer.. Really nice actually, and I should know.. I have 3 of them. Shipping was spread out among all the items. If I only needed 1 good sprayer, I would not order it online. Thats the key with online shipping.. make it worth it or wait. I'm happy with...

Online store keeping me on edge

So I ordered from Midwest Supplies Inc.. On my first order ever, I needed a few things. One of which was a spray bottle. Between the time I ordered, and the time it was picked, they sold out. The nice dude called me up to let me know. I let him know I was placing another order next week, so we...

Bottling (1st time) monday -- sanitizing questions

I just always rinse the bottles (immediately after pouring the beer, or if brand new) under a normal sink and swish a few times hard, then upend them in the dishwasher to drip dry and then store until bottling day. On bottling day, I use my sulfiter with some io star, (same ratio as star...

for new bottlers and old bottlers needing a better way

Thats a cool dip tube dealie you got there. As I recall, the last time I bottled I had to tip the bucket at a pretty hairy angle to get the last of it without one. An example of something I would have bought if the store had it listed as an accessory.

"strange" flavor in some of my brews

So, you are chilling them a couple days in the fridge? I opened one once that was only chilled a few hours and I'd have called it near "soapy" is why I ask. No idea really, sorry.

    Bottling woes

The caps that worked easily with the red baron bottle capper for me were these plain simple ones: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/plain-gold-caps-144-count.html

    Extra Equipment needed for Mini-mash?

I recently saw a first time mini-masher on youtube and I asked him what would he do different, and indeed he pointed to the difficulty using even a large hand strainer.
