    What are you drinking now?

I had a glass of chardonnay with lunch while the in laws were visiting, then a strawberry wine spritzer with my mother in law. Not something I'd normally drink, but we've had a bottle of strawberry wine on the bar for several years as a winery impulse buy in Door County, so... waste not, want...

What I did for beer today

This is precisely why I brew in small batches. LOL. Were you able to save the wine!? Today so far I've just washed half a dozen bottles so we can bottle our small batch brown ale later. Since the baby just went down for a nap, it's probably high time to get off my ass and start...

What I did for beer today

Switched the blow off tube for an airlock. One day closer to being able to taste!

What I did for beer today

Thanks! Yep, an American Red is up next And I've got a chestnut brown recipe that I want to adapt for hazelnuts... and I made the "mistake" of opening up my Midwest catalog and drooling over all the new kit I want... think I'll be able to pass the time. :-)

What I did for beer today

Husband and I just got our first beer into the fermenter about an hour ago. It was an awesome experience and it made the house smell pretty delicious. Now it's hurry it up wait until it's ready and we can see if we pulled it off.

What I did for beer today

Set up the supplies and ingredients to work on our first beer after it cools off when the sun goes down - we're going to do a basic brown ale.

    What are you drinking now?

Sparkling freaking water. On antibiotics for ten days for a stupid ear infection. Fail. Reading this thread makes me sad.

Anyone Have a Reliable 1 Gallon Recipe for Red Ale?

Thanks everyone, glad to know my numbers are accurate. Yeah, I order my grain in 1/2 or 1 pound sizes, then I'll measure it out at home. Gives me leftovers if I want to do another batch of it later too.

    What are you drinking now?

Split a Shiner Bock with husband for lunch. Now I'm drinking sparkling water. It's so hot today that the beer gets warm by the time you've got the cap off. Sigh.

    Dont know what to brew.

You know, if money is really tight and you just want to get some experience brewing under your belt, you can start with small batch brewing. I got everything I needed, brand-new for about $45.00 - 1 gallon glass jug, tubing, airlock, stopper, couple different grains, a few types of hops and some...

What I did for beer today

Scaled down an American red ale recipe and placed an order with Midwest for more ingredients. Was going to brew this weekend, but am waiting for our new digital scale to arrive - should be here in time for next weekend.

    Who's smoking meat this weekend?

We did a hickory smoked pork shoulder for pulled pork. Just let it go for most of the day. I put a really basic rub on it, nothing fancy - brown sugar, paprika, dry mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper. I've got home made barbecue sauce for dressing and some potato salad on...

Anyone Have a Reliable 1 Gallon Recipe for Red Ale?

    Okay, I scaled the recipe down - anyone want to double-check me to see if I made any glaring errors? 82% 8lb 4oz American Two-row (1.7 pounds) 5% 8 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (Franco Belges 80L is best) (1.6 ounces) 5% 8 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L* (1.6 ounces) 5% 8 oz Caramel/Crystal...

    Shiner Beer (Spoetzl Brewery)

We loved the Dortmunder and went to great lengths to track it down here (not a lot of places carried it). And Bock is a standby at our house - it's a really good everyday beer, and everyone seems to like it.
