    Broken Hydrometer

I broke two hydrometers my first brew day, it was a disaster. I would check out How to Brew by John Palmer for quality instructions, I have read that thing every day since I started, awesome resource. When I bottled, I added sugar to some water and brought it to a boil, making sure all the...

    Relay to switch 120v AC

I was mainly looking at Fermentation/Keezer control, so that should work perfectly, will have to order one and give it a go.

    i think my LHBS is lying to me {Carboy Prices GoinG Up}

I have really enjoyed using my 6 gallon BB and just got a 5 gallon for my birthday to use as a secondary. A good 24 hour Oxiyclean soak completely cleaned out my 6 gal after my pumpkin ale which looked like this (on the right) It was pretty dirty, but I cleaned it right after I transferred...

    Relay to switch 120v AC

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for a relay that could switch on a 120v AC supply with a 5v DC control. I wired up the monitoring side of a temp controller with my Arduino and three DS18S20 nics, so now I want to get the other side working. The Arduino has a 5v...

Arduino temp probe K type or RTD ???

Got my DS18S20s in. Hooked them up, got the Arduino to find and read from two NICs on one data line, which is pretty sweet. I also wrote a script in Processing that could read the data streaming off the Arduino and output it to the sketch. I also tested having a LED turn on when the...

Arduino temp probe K type or RTD ???

Is that one of the heat shielded thermowell's from Brewers Hardware? Do you just have one of the one wire therms tucked in? I have three of the DS18S20 on the way from Digikey and I am trying to figure out how I could incorporate it into a kettle and run it to my arduino.

Waiting until fermentation is done to move this to secondary. Blew out my airlock and had to switch to a blowoff. The color is fantastic. on the right

7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail (Quickly)

That is a tragic scene for any dog owner/lover to watch, but it is still a pretty good movie. I also agree with the person who mentioned 24 days later, that is a whole new kind of scary zombie. They don't overwhelm with numbers, slowly moving toward you, they run at you, bat sh*t insane, and...

    Pumpkin Ale Without The Pumpkin?

I couldn't find any for mine around Indy either. I ended up ordering it from Amazon, so now I have eight cans in my pantry after brewing a Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale which I got on here from Yuri_Rage. A lot of people on that thread used squash as an alternative as well.

Glass Vs. Plastic, let's hear the truth

I use buckets and better bottles. I just got a 6 gallon Better Bottle and appreciate being able to see the fermentation process, especially as a brand new brewer, versus using the bucket. The cost of a Better Bottle is always very enticing. LHBS wants $45 for a 6G glass carboy, with a Better...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

I brewed this one this past Tuesday. I did the extract version and came in a little high with my OG at 1.056 but I think it should still be ok. Wort tasted fantastic when I drew my sample. I am still curious what the breakdown is for people using pumpkin pie spice vs. cinnamon plus. I am...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

As everyone has said, finding pumpkin right now is quite the task. I ended up ordering some from Amazon, so we will see how that turns out. I was curious, for those who have brewed this, did you use a pumpkin pie spice blend or the cinnamon plus? I have both but was curious which way people...

    Counterflow Chiller Tutorial

I built one of these a few weeks ago it was my first time soldering so it is a bit rough and actually had some leaks where the last joints were between the reducer and the 3/8 soft copper. oh well, still was fun and sure i will get better at soldering with practice. i know the...

    Fixing CFC Leaking Welds

the problem is that one of the joints is a reducer being slid over 3/8" refrigerator tube, so in order to clean it, I basically have to take the whole thing apart and even then I can really get solder paste into the joint because it just gets smeared when I slide the reducer over the pipe. Also...

    Fixing CFC Leaking Welds

I tested my CFC I built tonight and unfortunately it has a few leaks at one or two joints. I already blew through a copper t-fitting in my quest for knowledge and experience with soldering copper. Is it safe to heat the joint again and re-apply solder or should I look at something like JB-Weld...
