    Another Yeast Washing Question

I've used washed 3068 on my last two batches without a starter. The yeast has taken off just fine.

Using 2 Week Old LME for yeast starter?

^^^I guess I should have been more specific. I squeezed all the air I could out of it. No it is not completely to the top.

Using 2 Week Old LME for yeast starter?

Good! Thanks for the assurance! I didn't think using such a small amount would add any off-flavors.

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

12,528 + 5 = 12,533. I used washed 3068 yeast. So, while not technically Edwort's Apfelwein, it is definitely inspired by it.

Using 2 Week Old LME for yeast starter?

I have some leftover LME from a brew I made 2 weeks ago. I don't have a vacuum sealer; so, I squeezed the air out of it, put the lid back on (it's a 1/2 gallon milk style jug) and stuck it in the fridge. I plan to brew Yuri Rage's recipe "Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale" Friday. Would I get any...

River Tubing with a Cornie Keg

The boat is probably your best option. How long of floats do you do?

Did I make some beginner mistakes?

A good trick for settling the trub and leaving it behind is to swirl the boil pot with a spoon. After removing your boil pot from the stove, take your spoon and start a whirlpool in the wort and let it swirl for a minute or two. This will help to push the trub to the bottom. Then when you are...

    Corney Keg Cheap?

I agree about Jason (insco). He shipped me a single corny for $25 total. Here is a link with everything you need to go from sanke fittings to corny fittings. Sanke Tap to Homebrew Conversion Kit, with disconnects You might be able to find the individual pieces in the link cheaper elsewhere...

    stirred yeast

Stirring it in is fine. The stirring actually help to aerate the wort. It is better to rehydrate your yeast before pitching, but I have had fine results dumping it directly in and stirring vigorously.

Removing 10+ year old dirt from bottles?

Soak them in oxyclean for a few days. Then, scrub them with your brush and afterwards soak them in oxyclean for a few more days. The bubbling of the oxyclean really helps to break down the old grime.

    Clementine Hefeweizen!

I have a Blood Orange Hefeweizen using 3068 yeast bottle conditioning. The hydrometer sample tasted excellent when I bottled it.

    BREWER'S BEST Oktoberfest Question

I brewed this kit in January. It is a very drinkable beer. It doesn't really taste like an oktoberfest. However, it was only my second batch and I fermented it on the high end (around 70 degrees) of the temp scale. I recommend what troutab81 said about fermenting it at around 60 degrees.

I try to choose my words carefully, but???

Search around this forum and google marijuana beer. There is quite a bit of info out there. It has been done.

    mould question

Soak them in oxyclean for a few days and then give them a good scrub. I found some grolsh bottles in a barn that were well over 20 years old. They had lots of things growing in them. One even had 20+ year old homebrew still in it. I soaked them in oxyclean for a few days and they came...

    Hoff-Stevens Fermenter Dip Tube Question

Today, I tried to remove the valve on the hoff-stevens keg using the method above. The allen head screws easily came out. However, the rest of it was much more challenging. I do not have a pipe wrench, so, I used a large pair of vice grips to tightly grip the very top of the outer ring and...

    Hoff-Stevens Fermenter Dip Tube Question

^^Do you know how to remove the dip tube? I have a hoff-stevens tap and I am getting ready to start kegging so I will soon have a co2 tank. If I tapped the keg and ran oxyclean through the keg and later sanitizer, would that sanitize the dip tube good enough? I really would rather not cut the...

    Hoff-Stevens Fermenter Dip Tube Question

I have a 15.5 gallon Hoff-Stevens keg I would like to use as a fermenter. It has been sitting in a barn with the bung removed for over 20 years. I have been soaking it with oxyclean for the last 24 hours. My question is: Will soaking it with oxyclean and scrubbing it inside good with a brush...
