3-in-1 "Boil Kettle, Jacketed Chiller, Conical Fermenter" by Brewha

I couldn't agree more. Temp control is paramount. While the foot print is larger than a traditional conical, when I took into account the true foot print for my old temp control system (old fridge) the footprint was significantly reduced. Also the aggravation of transferring the conical to...

I haven't been able to use the mash colander yet...but soon! Thanks again for getting it packed up, etc! I'll post once I use it. I did finally get a chance to brew again this past weekend and was reminded (yet again) how sweet it is to brew with this set up. I added a valve to the water...

I think a reef chiller is a perfect solution. I've been keeping my eye out for a cheap used one. My issue has been keeping it warm enough so using a bucket heater in a cooler with a temp controller and pump has been the perfect solution for me to keep it warm. I'm certain with a reef chiller...

I realize after reading the above you know most of what I said. The short of it is, I think you'll need to push out with CO2. Otherwise, no problems. You would just dump trub after chilling prior to transfer. I don't see this as a rate limiting step in the least.

Exactly. This is the beauty of the 3-in-1. Now that conicals have been around for a while, home brewers have been enjoying the luxury of dumping yeast / trub and using the conical as a secondary. That saved a big step (all the sanitation and risk of oxidation, time commitment etc.) incurred...

Looks serious! Post pics when installed! Is it a 6" fan?

Wow! Welcome and congrats on the purchase! You won't regret it! I'm still blown away by the time savings and convenience of it all. You also hit the nail on the head re: the footprint. That was a major selling point, and it really is true. It's a genius system in my book. I think it was...

The casters are heavy duty. Rolling it is a breeze...in fact it's preferred. Still loving mine! I've found the losses to be less with the conical. I bet I gained over 1/2 gal in brewhouse efficiency with the change...

It's pretty heavy (for me). It has handles on the side which make fairly it easy to lift with 2 people. Mine (the non-BIAC version) shipped at 130#. So maybe 80# or so for the unit (more depending on what you have attached to it I guess). I would think you'd be able to get it up 2-3 stairs...

I can see the benefit of placing a valve between the solenoid and conical...I will probably do the same thing next time...my basement is at the same temp. I found I did need to use the chilling solenoid set-up the first few days of fermentation however while fermentation was in the exothermic...

Well maybe Jimmy82 can weigh in on this. I don't actually have the BIAC myself. Alternatively, I would think brewha would be able to answer your question? That is an interesting solution. If you go that route, please be sure to post results!

have YOU brewed an amazing beer?

Sorry for the ultra long reply. It just me reminiscing a bit and I thought I would share. Hopefully this doesn't come off as overly indulgent on my part... That said, I'd say there are 3 examples that have stood out to me over the years. Only one was submitted for judging. #1. Belgian...

I just saw this...not something I'd be interested in...but being able to directly and easily convert your fermenter to a still? That is pretty amazing! They aren't selling the condenser column yet...but it's coming!

Caught a break and got a window of time to brew today. The idea is a clone of alesmith X. Since I didn't have much to go off of other than the number off Alesmith's website and having tried the IPA and X side by side, I used the widely published Alesmith IPA recipe and backed off on the...

Yes, that would be a bummer. Only if you had a drain in the floor could you ever feel really safe in that situation. The closed loop system is low pressure as well. Without a flow restriction I can't imagine it leaking. The ice in the water jug is probably easiest, as you probably would...

I have not had to chill during fermentation yet. My theoretical solution will be to either use my same temp control system but intermittently putting frozen jugs of water in the 5 gal cooler, vs. finding a cheap / used marine fish tank cooler similar to this (but cheaper)...

I'd recommend contacting Nathan at Brewha via their website...I'm sure he could tell you what sort of efficiencies he's getting which would help you figure out how to adapt your recipe to the BIAC.
