    Troubles with carbonation...

Ok...so quite a lot of drama over here. First...I found the major issue. The gas pinlock was not letting any gas into the keg. It has to be the stem because I have tried 3 different grey gas fittings and every one of them would NOT allow gas into the keg unless I pushed down on it HARD and held...

    Troubles with carbonation...

I'm going to try that with my next 1 gallon batch of cider...a DELICIOUS looking apple & dark sweet cherry combo. Something that just occurred to me...I've been using 1-step to clean and to sanitize, and not rinsing. Think that some residual would be killing the carbonation somehow? I'm going...

    Troubles with carbonation...

Yes...I can hear it. It's almost like it's losing carbonation in the pour. My dispense PSI is 8lbs, I can see the carbonation in the tubing, but it's flat when it gets to the glass.

    Troubles with carbonation...

So...after running a couple of batches and bottle conditioning (and having pretty good success), I went out and bought some kegs and decided to force carbonate. I like a sweeter cider and really hated messing around with all the glass bottles. Here's where I ran into problems... I can't seem to...

Is it okay to Boil my Cider to stop fermentation?

So...I ONLY do cider at this point (I accidentally did a sparkling apple wine a while back, but that is another story). I like my cider to be sweet to semi-sweet, carbonated and clear. I do a little bit of bottling, but I have a kegging system so I force carbonate and not bottle condition...

How to strip aluminum bottles for re-use...a guide

I never said it was any easier...not even once. You can't take glass bottles everywhere. Glass bottles break. Glass bottles bang around my boat. Glass bottles aren't as shiny. :p Glass bottles don't get cold NEARLY as fast. Finally...you can't screw the top back on a glass bottle and put it...

How to strip aluminum bottles for re-use...a guide

Yeah...no... No Carbon tet in the cleaner I use. Mainly methanol...and of course I would be doing it outside. Can’t get more “ventilation” than that.

How to strip aluminum bottles for re-use...a guide

Well, I thought about that...and honestly it came down to time. I currently work from home, so getting up for a few minutes every half hour or so to change out the bottles in the pressure cooker was no big deal. I was able to do every bottle that I own during one work day. As far as the cleaning...

How to strip aluminum bottles for re-use...a guide

Thanks! It’s kind of a pain in the rear, but I LOVE the look of the aluminum bottles AND they get REALLY cold REALLY fast. I’m kind playing around with the used caps right now to see just how well I can get them to stay sealed. I tried to use the pressure cooker method to take the labels off of...

How to strip aluminum bottles for re-use...a guide

So, after doing a lot of digging through the forums I wasn't able to find any information on how to turn these: into these: Maybe I'm just particular, but I don't really want my home brew to be free advertisement for some vanilla brand of beer...but I LOVE the aluminum bottles! I've looked...

Has anyone ever seen this kind of keg before? Anyone successfully refill one?

    sanitation question

I do have a cheap soda blaster from Harbor Freight...that may do the trick.

    sanitation question

hmmm...that give me an idea. I wonder how it would do on power-coat like what is on the outside of aluminum bottles. 🤔

    Are Glass Bottles Going Bye-Bye?

I know this is an old post, but I REALLY want to start bottling in the aluminum bottles...I just can't find a source for them (other than getting them when people recycle them). Anyone have a source for the 16oz aluminum bottles with the screw tops?

    sanitation question

What kind of sanitizer are you using??

    Is BIGGER better?

I thought about this...but I only have 2 kegs and they are 5 gallons each. If I do more than 5 gallons, I have to commit to ALL cider or buy another keg, replumb my CO2 setup and so on.
