    Sierra Navada bottles,,,

Try to spin the cap on top of the bottle. If it moves, you have a bad seal. If not ,it's a-ok. Did you batch prime, or bottle prime? If you batch prime in your bottling bucket and forget to gently stir after you add the sugar (like I have done) you could get uneven carbonation between bottles.

    Bottle vs. Keg?

Kegging is definitely easier IMO. You only have one container to clean an sanitize as opposed to almost 50 for a 5 gallon batch. Plus, who doesn't want beer on tap at home??? AMIRITE? :cross: Keep in mind you can also carbonate with priming sugar @ ~70*F for 2-3 weeks like you would with...

    Show us your Kegerator

Actually thinking of welding the right sized nut into the closed end of a box wrench and bending it up to make a tap handle. I'll definitely post some pictures if I decide to go that route.

    Show us your Kegerator

Thanks man! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to weld it all together with the cam being cast, but I just cranked the voltage on my mig and it's held so far! My brother is wanting to candy parts of the fridge and put some pinstriping and lettering all over it as well. Should look pretty...

    Show us your Kegerator

Here's my simple setup, not quite as polished as some of the ones in this thread, but I love it. Had an old fridge from my Grandparents house, and it's slowly evolved into monster. We call her "Gold Gloria". The handle is the camshaft, lifters and rockers that came out of my Mustang when I...

    CO2 lasts how many kegs?

Definitely true. I learned this the hard way just yesterday on my first kegged batch....and it sucks the big one seeing as I'm only 2/3 of the way through the keg. I'm pretty sure I had a leaking pressure relief valve, but I need to check. I'm going to get my 5 lber refilled here this afternoon...

    Coffee porter recipe input

Thanks for the feedback guys. I definitely know what you mean about how a little goes a long way now...The girl at the shop I usually go to gave me 1lb of chocolate malt for my Special bitter recipe I'm brewing tomorrow...aaaaaand I only wanted 1 oz. It's all cracked and in one bag with the...

    Coffee porter recipe input

Here's a picture of the beer that I'm kinda basing my recipe off of to give you guys and idea what I'm shooting for. This is what my recipe looks like with 1 lb 80L instead of 1/4lb black and 1/2 lb 60L. I'm pretty happy with how the recipe looks, and the coffee is going to add some black...

    Coffee porter recipe input

Thanks for the input man! As you can tell, I've never used black malt before, and I'm definitely glad I came here and asked. What exactly did you use to skim the oils off the top? I might be interested in doing that instead of racking onto the coffee in the secondary.

    Coffee porter recipe input

More so for color, but still looking for a roasty flavor as well, figured it would work. Keep in mind I have this under a robust porter (12 B) and Beer Tools pro is putting me right at 33.26 srm which is within the guidelines for the style. Or would it be better to swap out the black malt for a...

    Coffee porter recipe input

I think i meant to put 1lb chocolate malt and .5 lb black malt. Would that fix it, or would you do even less black malt? Thanks for the reply.

    Coffee porter recipe input

Thinking of making a coffee porter for my next brew. Gonna do a partial mash, then rack into secondary with 20 oz of cold coffee. It's my own recipe that I put into beer tools pro, and I think it looks pretty good. Kinda going for Highland Brewing Thunderstruck Coffee Porter, but if it's not...

    Did i mess up?

You actually want to aerate the wort a little bit before you pitch. The yeast need the oxygen to do their thing, and most people do it just like you did. I just shake the piss out of my 6.5 gallon carboy for a minute or two after I siphon it. Your beer should be fine though.

    Best Movie Ever Made

Only saw this once in this thread, but In Bruges is a kick ass movie. I think it ties for first with the Departed. Also really really like Sunshine by Danny Boyle...or anything else by Danny Boyle for that matter. One of the most underrated and unheard of movies IMO.

What do we ALL have in common?

    Doesn't say anything about beer...So I didn't vote. :D

Sierra Nevada Torpedo vs. Stone Arrogant Bastard

Don't taste that similar to me. Arrogant Bastard is an american strong ale, while Torpedo is an extra Pale Ale. Not even the same category of beer. I'd say try them back to back or give it some time and you'll definitely be able to tell the differences between the two styles.

    Question on carbonation

Thanks for the quick response man! I'll definitley do that before I head in to work this afternoon. I'm really glad this is the only step I kinda botched for these first two batches lol. :rockin:

    Question on carbonation

I kinda sorta goofed up the carbonation on my first two batches of beer. I used 3/4 cup dextrose in 2 cups of boiling water as per Charlie Papazian's recipe for 5 gal. Everything went really smooth but for some reason I forgot that you need to let them sit at around 70*F for a week or two after...
