    Irish Stout Guinness Draught Clone

Yeah, I see what you mean. My mill is homemade, and not so tough - so I'll save the whole barley for roasting and go with the flaked barley

    Guinness Draught Bottles

impressive - I wouldn't have thought that would work!!

    Irish Stout Guinness Draught Clone

Can the same effect be created with 'acid malt'?

Sorghum extract / Syrup in Canada

Hi, digging this old thread up from the past. I am looking into gluten free brewing for a friend - anyone have a line on this in Canada?

    Irish Stout Guinness Draught Clone

I'm keen to give this recipe a try. Think I can use raw barley (hulled) instread of flaked barley? Would a cereal mash be required? thanks!!!

Cream Ale Cream of Three Crops (Cream Ale)

Just finished up a batch of this beer, using corn meal w/ a cereal mash instead of the flaked corn. A++!!

    Rice Hulls Substitute

I found mashingheads.com, located in Ontario. If I order 10 lbs of stuff it costs it's about an extra $10 for shipping, which isn't bad. so RICE HULLS! here I come!

    Rice Hulls Substitute

well, I would rinse them and freeze them till needed - but you're right, it's not worth the risk of throwing off the flavor of the beer

    Rice Hulls Substitute

here is a thought, what about using some grain from the previous batch (washed)? anyone ever tried this?

    Rice Hulls Substitute

yeah, good if you're getting 20 lbs. I don't mind spending a bit more, for example flaked wheat in Nfld is $4 a lb, but SWMBO wouldn't like $10 a lb for anything.....

    Rice Hulls Substitute

Thanks! I'll check into it, but I suspect shipping will still run me $4-5 a lb.

    Rice Hulls Substitute

Hey, I'm no stranger to buying online!!! My ebay addiction speaks for that! I could get it online, but I would end up spending $10 a lb because fo shipping, so it's really not worth it.

    Rice Hulls Substitute

gee..... I think I'll leave out the fingernails and the paper (not sure if you were serious on that one), and go with batch sparging and pretreating the grain ;-)

    Rice Hulls Substitute

The hulls were called for in the recipe, I assumed I needed them with over 30% wheat. What do you mean 'condition' the malt? I'm relatively new to this.

    Rice Hulls Substitute

So you mashed with all the grain in a bag? What did you use, some sort of cheesecloth or something? thanks

    Rice Hulls Substitute

Thanks, I am using a single braid in a 5 gal. drink cooler. How did you 'upsize'. I had thought about putting in a T with two braids....

    Rice Hulls Substitute

Ok, so I'm planning a witbier (hoegaarden clone) and I can't find any rice/oat hulls within 500km (no, really...), is there anything I can substiute? thanks.

Witbier Hoegaarden Witbier Clone - Pierre Celis White

Thanks, I am certainly no pro, I haven't even figured out my mash efficiency yet. I would like to make this brew with Northern Brewer and Saaz, think that would work? I have on hand: Saaz, Norhtern Brewer, Fuggles, and Progress. I know I'm off-track from the original recipe....

Witbier Hoegaarden Witbier Clone - Pierre Celis White

Hi, I'm keen to try this beer, but I have a couple of questions (this will be my 5th all grain brew). I noticed your water profile, my water is fairly soft (don't know exactly), and I usually use a ph 5.2 buffer. Should I be trying to match your water profile somehow? As well, my LHBS...
