    Backsweeting help?

To go along with this, as I was about to start my own thread, what's a good practice for stabilizing? Is it best to dissolve the Sorbate and K-Meta in simmering/boiling water first? Or, will they dissolve if you just add them as is?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I've done a cherry wine with 5 gallons of bottled cherry juice using the same method as apfelwein. In primary for about 2.5 months, maybe 3, and bottle aged for about 1 month before trying. It was ok, tasted light, not much cherry flavor. 2-3 months aging it was still light on the cherry flavor...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I seem to recall lots of posts about adding 1 can of concentrate into the bottling bucket for 5 gallons. Of course, as mentioned, there are different sugar amounts in different concentrates. I've never carbed a batch yet, but if it was me, i'd be inclined to do 1 can and see how it works. Work...

First time looking at equipment, thoughts?

So I've been thinking of how I would like to design the element(s) for the new pot I'm ordering. I was following a list of parts over at theelectricbrewery site to come up with these: *I read a thread here about the Camco 1500w/120v elements not being what they used to be, so I dropped the idea...

First time looking at equipment, thoughts?

I settled on this kit http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=46&product_id=91 with the 3 piece valve. However, what is the "inside option" and what is the "hose barb"? Is the inside option for inside the pot, like where a dip tube would go?

First time looking at equipment, thoughts?

I'm not mechanically inclined at all. I guess it might not be hard to do myself though. For the little bit of a price increase, that 15 gallon looks good over the 10. It provides room for future growth if I need it some day. With that in mind then, I guess I'm in search of some kind of weldless...

First time looking at equipment, thoughts?

I started in search of a 7 - 8 gallon stainless steel pot with a spigot. Let's just say eventually I came across this ($116ish): http://store.homebrewheaven.com/15-gallon-stainless-steel-brewpot-wlid-p1037.aspx and for another $24-25ish I can get a brass spigot installed on it. The shipping...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Live and learn... I already had a replacement batch going the next day. Also picked up another better bottle to get a semi-rotation of it going. Everyone loves it and keeps wanting more, plus I want to get a stockpile of it going so I can age some for years without being tempted to open it...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

My most recent batch (2nd one) was a disaster at bottling time. It was completely turned :(. I let it sit in the primary for about 5 1/2 months before noticing that the airlock was drying up. Not completely dried up yet though. Filling it up again took a backburner to other things I was doing...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Wow. Thanks for the info Lg! I think I'll just use a piece of a stick in bottles. If I'm reading it right, if they aren't cut "lengthwise" in half they'll unroll? Should be bottling with cin. sticks near end of month, can't wait!

No yeast, no headaches? Line from tv...

I know about fusels, I've tasted a good bit of rocket fuel. I know that there must've been some type of yeast that would convert sugars to alcohol. I found the line that I heard odd is all and thought I'd see what you guys thought.

No yeast, no headaches? Line from tv...

    * This is not to spark a discussion about distilling/spirits/etc... I happened to catch one of the "bonus footage" shows of Moonshiners on Discovery Channel. There was one guy on there that said they don't use "yeast". They used a corn seed that started sprouting instead. The reason - no...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I have a 5g batch that's been in primary for almost 4 1/2 months. I'm planning on aging this for this Christmas (if I hide it from myself). I wanted to add some cinnamon to some of it. Is powder a big no-no? I don't have anymore sticks at home but can get some. Also, can it be bottled with...

Basics of using real fruit vs juice?

There's no specific fruit I was thinking of right away. From the sounds of it, it seems like almost filling a 6.5g bucket would be worthwhile. That way, when transferring to my 5g better bottle I know I'll have enough. Who knows, sometimes I might have enough for another smaller 1g jug. Thanks...

Basics of using real fruit vs juice?

I've made a good bit of wine within the past year thanks to everyone on here! However, I've never attempted using real fruit. I think it has to do with the whole 'pressing/juicing' that doesn't seem worth my time. I am intrigued by how different bought juice vs. real fruit compares. With that in...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

My 2nd batch of this has already been in primary for 2 months. I bottles first batch at 3 months and it was awesome. Didn't even last 3 weeks and only gave away a couple. I did let 1/2 a glass sit out after drinking for a while for a couple days and tasted it, so I know how the turning to...
