    cold crashing?

I've considered doing this for some future brews, but while it seems many people have done this without issue, I'm worried about the extra pressure forming in the bottle from the beer warming up during carbonation. Is the pressure added just not enough to worry about or is it more a matter of...

    Safe to bottle in growler?

For growlers you want to use swing tops. Don't know about 2 liter soda bottles, but PET beer bottles are safe - just a matter of finding ones in 2L size. I myself used some 1/2 gallon and grolsch sized swing tops to save money, but Bell's Beer Supplies has a great deal on some 12 oz Amber...

    Simple Braggot

Yea i should have specified the second one but it sounds good. That's exactly what I'd be shooting for flavor wise - dark beerish. What is the added benefit of boiling as opposed to shaking until the extract is dissolved?

    Simple Braggot

How is this coming along? I'm interested in trying this recipe once I move, and if all goes well I'll be upsizing to 5g. I've also been interested in trying this with Munich LME, but curious if the amount needed would be the same. I'd love to have something like cross between mead and a German...

Brooklyn Brew Shop - Chestnut Brown Ale

What's interesting is that I had a strainer over the carboy when pouring the wort, but I guess it wasn't fine enough mesh. I even had to hold the thing between my knees while pouring :).

Brooklyn Brew Shop - Chestnut Brown Ale

Hey yeast, it looks like the initial trub was from the boil. This picture was taken about 3 days after pitching the yeast and you can clearly see two layers forming at the bottom. This was after sitting a full day, quite the initial activity

    basic kits

I started a full mash kit from Brooklyn Brew Shop 5 days ago and I thought it was great. The only extra supplies needed were pots, a fine mesh strainer, and a funnel. The only minor inconvenience was that their instructions are all online, but they do have videos to accompany them. The kit with...

Brooklyn Brew Shop - Chestnut Brown Ale

I'm pretty new as well (this is my first kit), but I believe the problem was that the wort was way too hot after the ice bath, and so a lot of the stuff floating around didn't have a chance to settle at the bottom of the pot before being poured into the carboy. The directions called for the wort...

Brooklyn Brew Shop - Chestnut Brown Ale

Just thought I'd update. I brewed the beer last night and everything went without a hitch until I cooled the wort. I think when I was checking the temperature, the thermometer was touching the side of the pot causing the reading to be much lower than the actual temp - my fault for not double...

Brooklyn Brew Shop - Chestnut Brown Ale

I recently bought a kit of Chestnut Brown Ale and was curious if anyone had any thoughts on the use of two 6qt pots for the sparging and lautering. I saw in the IPA thread that three 10qt pots would be best, but I am unfortunately limited to the two 6qt pots due to space constraints. That being...
