Best Fertilizer to Use When Flowering

I too stressed over the fertilizer issue of what, when and how much to use. It is difficult to say since all plants differ and the variables that effect there growth are vast. I also use an organic liquid fertilizer from "Earth Juice" that does a great job for my needs. Mostly nitrogen focused...

Best Fertilizer to Use When Flowering

I read a paper from Oregon State on hop fertilizer research and application. I've also had discussions regarding phosphorus additions during "flowering" and it seems from what I understand, Nitrogen needs of the plant are ginormous, phosphorus not so much. A dose of bone meal to the soil at the...

    Cascades in Key West

Hey Stan, Is it normal for the lower, older leaves to begin to yellow and dry out such as those? Mine seem to be doing the same thing.

    Weathering the storm

After 4 days of gloomy dark skies, 20+ inches of rain and wind gusts from 35-40mph, the sun is shining once again. Battered and torn, the inaugural swamp cascades have survived the brutality of tropical storm Debby... slightly worse for wear. Some cones have been lost and one string line...

    Drug chopper???

That's intense! If pot is such a huge problem in Michigan, maybe the local law enforcement need an upgrade. Maybe next year this will be hovering over your house. I'll drive!

How do you fertilize hops in pots/buckets?

What a loaded question. I have found the fertilizer question is similar to "what should I wear today?" you need clothes but, it's really personal taste what you pic. The fish emulsion is great. I use it myself and really have seen great results. Also, I use the tea mix method it that too does...

    Cascades in Key West

I read this article before hand. Has some real good info and I used it as a guide to start. Found a research paper regarding hop nutrient requirements from Oregon state university. Most of the findings were generalized and seeming to be more of a basic what to expect type of tone. Have yet to...

    Cascades in Key West

Never heard that. New to me. Sounds true. I was gonna put some high phos bat shat on top of the soil and switch to the bloom formula in the series I'm using. No big changes. Just "follow the recipe" as I've heard. I'm pumped up. Guess I should start planning a dry hopped cascade something or...

    Wow!!! Cones already????

Inaugural Cascade beginning to show first signs of burrs today. Snapped this just before the rain set in.

    Cascades in Key West

Right in the crack between the main bine and a large leaf is where the sprout is forming. Looks different them the other side arms around so, I pretty sure it's gonna be a cone. Time to switch the fertilizer schedule a bit and start pumping out cones! I should probably look into buying a vacuum...

    Cascades in Key West

The girls are hanging in there. Everything seems to be good besides a few leaves that were torn during the wind. I won't be watering for a good bit. I think they need to dry out for awhile. Through it all, they have held strong and I believe in the last picture.... Maybe the start of a cone...

    Cascades in Key West

I've got two cascade plants. One is close to 8' or 9'. The other is about face level; say 5'. I use the fish emulsion every other week and some low dose feeding nutrients with a pump sprayer and drench the soil. My soil mix in the pots I have drains quite well so, I'm gonna do the same for the...

best hops to grow in fl

I used a 1/3 mix of black Kow compost, 1/3 general organic top soil, 1/3 organic cypress mulch. Mixed in some bone meal fertilizer and stirred. Everything was from my local lowes garden department and, including the two 20" pots, was under $80. Satisfaction of my first hop plants actually...

    my first attemps

Bought two rhizomes from Nicobrew.com. Both came really quick and were in great condition. Thank you nico. First day I planted, went out to dinner with the wife and returned home to find out my mother had let my kids play in the pots! They dug up both sticks and tossed them in the yard...

    Cascades in Key West

Blows me away to see hops growing in the keys. Not only growing but, flowering. What ever it is, your nuclear turtle water or just an amazing green thumb, keep doing what your doing. I agree with you about planting in ground. Next year I wanna make a raised planter box and a better trellis...

Where did you get the crown from? You mentioned plant tone. I'm not familiar with this. Could you elaborate a bit. If this is the secret to your success.... well maybe I need to get on board. Do you plan to move to the ground or will pots be the final place?

    my first attemps

I'm in central Fl. Potted to Cascade in early April and have been watching them close. Doing very well and I'm surprised at the rate of growth. They seem happy for now.
