    How is Brewer's Best?

So I just bought a Brewer's Best American Pale Ale kit from my LHBS. They have apparently changed their packaging and updated their recipes. I was pleasently supprised when I opened the box and read the instructions. In the instructions they advocate Late Extract additions. They go as far as...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Sounds good. Mine is now at 1.013 and has been for a few days. However, it is still not very clear (actually there is still a layer of hops floating on top). I might transfer over to secondary for a week or so with some geletan to help it settle out. I can't wait!

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

my suggestion would be to give it some time. Mine is still bubbling. We'll see what she settles out at.. whenever that may be. :)

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Well after all of that fretting, I'm now down to 1.018 and still bubbling away ever few seconds. We are past the two week mark on this brew too. Still tastes amazing too. At this rate I might get to drink it by Christmas. :)

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Give it a couple of swirls in the bucket and re-test in a few days. It may be doing it's work slowly, especially since you didn't rehydrate the notty. After repitching mine it has been slowly bubbling away. I haven't tested the gravity since then, but I figure I will wait until Sunday to...

    How is Brewer's Best?

dc- For the majority of my brews I give them at least 4 weeks and have gone as long as 7 weeks before bottling. The ones that go lower than 1.020 usually have other fementables in them besides malt extract. I have used Notty for 8 out of 10 brews too.

    How is Brewer's Best?

I too have used them for a majority of my batches, again, because that is what my LHBS has. They turn out fine and have been well liked by those who have tasted them. Like others have said alot of their kits seem to fizzle out at or around 1.020. Though I think this might be more due to them...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Okay an update: I shook the fermentor up last night before I went to bed and this morning there were bubbles comming through the airlock. We will see if there is something going on tonight when I get home. :cross fingers:

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Oh, I've been doing that since the fermentation slowed. I'm done with adding yeast at this point. So, it will have to do something from here. Oh it smells great, and the samples I have pulled taste amazing. I really want this to turn out.

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

Initially I used Munton's Gold. It took off very quickly, as I pitched it at 63 degrees. My basement is 68 for the most part all year around. I put the fermentor into large 18 gallon pale of water to maintain temps with a fan blowing on it. Fermentation lasted about 2 days until activity in...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

So this brew has me a little worried. Mine is currently stuck at 1.026. I have repitched 3 days ago with no results and I just repitched again tonight. I really don't want to loose this batch. :(

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

I just got this into the fermentor. However, Now that I see the original recipe I realize that I used too much Chrystal Malt. I used 1lb. What should I expect... aside from great tasting beer!?!?

    Best methods for cleaning bottles?

It's not that it's not "good enough" I just prefer the two lines of defense. If the DW doesn't kill it the Iodine solution will. I'd hate to ruin beer due to poor sanitation. I have read that it is also good to switch up your sanitation choices every once in awhile too. For example, if...

    Best methods for cleaning bottles?

Any new homebrew bottle is soaked in oxyclean to remove the label. On brew day the bottles are all placed in the dishwasher and sanitized. This takes about 2 hours, so about 1.5 hours in I start to get the priming sugar boiled and the beer transfered from fermentor to bottling bucket. Once the...

Is my kit too old to brew? Received in May

I brewed a wheat beer ealier this summer with a kit that was at least 3 years old. It came out good. A little darker than it should have been, but it tasted good. I did buy new yeast for it. I'm sure you will be fine with using a kit that is "best before" this month. I think the rule...
