    Goldenrod Honey for Mead

Frydog... I will take your warning into consideration (seems "goldenrod" honey varies quite a bit)... I am going to get a little experience before I tackle the goldenrod anyway. I will let you know if it ends up being "super fantastic." :) I can't rule out that the wildflower honey I used in my...

I second homebrewer_99's motion... other threads reveal the same strategy... here was my issue:

    Stick-on (liquid crystal?) thermometer placement

both ideas sound good... seeing as I have already stuck the thermometer on the jug, I will heed bainbridge's advice! I was was actually getting ready to go do exactly that before I noticed the responses... a little further reading on the site led me to a similar conclusion. thanks guys... this...

    Stick-on (liquid crystal?) thermometer placement

d*mn... I have one under water now (hard to avoid with a 1 gallon jug in a water bath...)... They said waterPROOF, so I thought I might get away with it... It is still currently giving the temp, but the part that has been underwater, while still sticking, is developing some light/white areas...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

I think the water bath might be killing my strip thermometer :( It is still currently giving the temp, but the part that has been underwater, while still sticking, is developing some light/white areas around the temps that "move" or change when I press or rub across them... anyone know if...

    Goldenrod Honey for Mead

sounds good. I read somewhere that not skimming can contribute to hangover symptoms... I think I will continue to give it enough heat to kill any critters and call it good enough (160 should do that, right?)... then again I might try some as per Bryan's suggestion. man, that arm pit aroma just...

    Goldenrod Honey for Mead

I found a source for bulk goldenrod honey in NC. Reading on the site I get the impression it is acceptable to use in large quantities, for mead, and imparts a potentially buttery flavour and a good deal of sweetness... Any updates on goldenrod meads, or suggestions on use??? It will be a while...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

good, so I'll get it there and get it good... no half-hearted, hesitant swirling... Thanks for clearing up the acronym... I gathered it was some type of undesirable explosion of sorts... I have a friend who recently tried to brew an 8+% beer with his carboy filled, to the neck... needless to...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

Thanks guys... As slow as my fermentation is, I hope I didn't do any damage with the splash racking... time will tell! Medsen, when you say swirl to aerate, do you mean keep it going in one direction and don't slosh intentionally, or do you want to agitate it a little better??? let me know if...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

^hehe... I didn't realize when I started! medsen, fatbloke... I took your advice... being naturally inclined to getting ahead of myself (maybe doing anything yet was getting ahead..?) I didn't let the boiled bread yeast (no hulls on hand) cool as much as I should have, so I compounded the...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

^d*mn... wish I had not poured that golden liquid down my drain... I always drink my beer along the way... Thanks for the info both of you! fatbloke, I may wait a little while (rack to secondary tonight) and see if it goes away... otherwise I will try your method! I've always used water in...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

oops... silly typo in title (someone feel free to fix it!!!). another question; at what point should I rack to secondary in the future??? when fermentation is very slow, or when the gravity is a little higher (say 1.020)??? should I go ahead and rack this one to secondary even though it's only...

    1st time mead-maker w/ sulfer smell

I was hoping you guys had some insights/advice on this situation... I am not sure how concerning it is. My mead, now 8 days old, has a light sulfur aroma. It started at 1.080, and is at 1.002 today... I did taste it (didn't drink it), and found it to be surprisingly pleasant, but there is a...

    Sour Wood Honey mead

Does 71B finish faster than D47 in your experience??? is k1v the 1116 from Lalvin??? seems like mine, with the red star cote des blancs, is already surprisingly clear for 1 week, but most of this honey was on the darker side, so maybe I'll be able to tell better with the upcoming sourwood...
