    March Pump and SSR Troubles

It has 120v when nothing is plugged into the SSR plug both when it is off or on. With the pump plugged in and the SSR on I am showing about 75v on another outlet in parallel. With the pump running on the non-switched outlet it draws 1.45amps. With it trying to run on the SSR switched outlet it...

    March Pump and SSR Troubles

I will check the voltage when I get home in the morning. The SSR is a 40amp that I already had. I am not trying to reduce power at all. Just turn on or off. I went with a SSR partly because I was planning on adding level switches in the future, but mainly because I already had some extras...

    March Pump and SSR Troubles

Yes the output to the SSR is on. The LED on the SSR lights up and you can hear the humming and the motor tries to turn. When the output is off, you don't hear or see anything.

    March Pump and SSR Troubles

I am running a BCS controlled HERMS rig with SSRs switching the power to my heating elements and a March pump. For some reason, the pump will not start when plugged into the outlet fed through the SSR. It makes a loud humming noise and you can see the internal fan turning very slowly, but it...

Metallic/Astringent OFF flavors in all my batches, absolutely stumped, please help me

It's a long shot ,but how does the heating element in your RIMS unit look? I started getting a metallic taste about 4 or 5 batches before one of my heating elements went out.

    Project for 2 corny kegs

I couldn't feel any holes, but possibly found a crack in one of them. There is rust in the areas that are leaking in the crack between the rubber and top. I think I'm going to try cutting the rubber back and see what I can find. Hopefully I can fix it with either some epoxy or possibly weld it.

    Project for 2 corny kegs

What's a good way to get the handles off?

    Project for 2 corny kegs

I have 2 corny kegs that will not hold pressure. Both of them leak from somewhere between the rubber handle and the metal top, but I can't tell for sure where. So anyone have any suggestions on a project to use these for. So far all I have come up with is to keep them full of water for some...

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

Well it looks like the side by side comparrison is going to have to wait. I just finished brewing and was about to pitch the yeast when I dropped the carboy. So I have about 2.5 gallons in a keg and that's it. I don't have anything else to split it into for now, so it'll have to wait until next...

    Infection?

I ended up taking it to a local club meeting and got some different feedback. Several people said it was a good beer, and I agree. It was still good, just not what it once was. A BJCP judge told me it tasted like it got some wild yeast contamination during racking to the keg. I took everything...

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

I will be brewing another batch tonight. On this one I am going to split it in half and do a side by side comparison between this method and a normal primary/secondary/kegging/priming process. If all goes well I'll have more info in few weeks.

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

There was definately more hops influence all around. It makes sense to me since I didn't lose any resins out the blowoff tube like normal. Other than that I am undecided. I have not made this exact reciepe before, but pretty close.

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

I made it from grain to glass in 10 days. It was almost too easy. I'll be primarily using this method from now on.

    Infection?

It's been at 35 since I kegged it. It's got Wyeast Munich Lager 2308 in an extract Oktoberfest kit. The best way I can think of to describe the taste is a lack of malt flavor with an almost sour aftertaste.

    Infection?

I switched to kegging this week. I put 5 gallons of Oktoberfest in a corny that was cleaned with oxyclean and sanitized with star sans. I took all the valves apart, put in new o-rings, all the lines, everything I could think of. I forced carbed it and started drinking it. It was the best beer I...

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

Well so far so good. This morning I was at 1.010 and 10psi. I am expecting this beer to finish out about 1.009 so I sealed it up and hope it makes it to 30psi, but I don't think it is going to make it. It was at 1.022 when I went to bed and I still don't see how it came down so fast. The Fermcap...

    Closed-system pressurized fermentation technique!

Well, I took the plunge and am givig it a shot. I ended up with about 4.5 gallons in a corny with Fermcap. I just finished up the brew, so we'll see how it looks tomorrow. Hopefully the Fermcap does it's job and I still have clear lines tomorrow.

What size batch works well in a corny keg? Would 4 gal work well or would it still be too much?

    First all-grain/BIAB

After reading many posts on here, I finally have something to talk about.... I have exactly three batches under my belt and decided to make the leap to all-grain sooner rather than later. So, I made my first attempt at all-grain with BIAB this weekend since I have not finished getting my...
