    Big Ol' SNAFU

I always take a hydro reading, I just got carried away and forgot to take one before I primed. The reading after I primed was 1.019. After digging around and checking my Beertools software, the priming sugar probably boosted the FG by .004-.005. Theoretically I could have a 1.014 FG. I think...

    Big Ol' SNAFU

Brewed an all grain Weizen last week.(Bee Cave Weizen). Its been 8 days and fermentation stopped after the third day. EdWort's recipe calls for an F.G. of 1.009. Well, I had a brain fart and I primed my batch before I took a hydrometer reading. The reading was 1.019! To make this...

    insulated HLT project

Yeah jds, you're probably right. I have a rectangular cooler. I insulated the top also with spray foam. I did a weizen this last Sunday, and temps didn't budge that much. It was hard for me to get an accurate temp reading. If I sunk the temp probe into the grain bed, that temp was different...

    Chest Freezer Controller

    Or.....you could do this.... http://brewing.lustreking.com/gear/johnsoncontroller.html

    Chest Freezer Controller

What I did was pretty straight forward. Find the dial thermostat on your freezer. Disconnect those wires and wire them into your Johnson control thermostat. All the themostat is doing is interrupting the power to your freezer when it reaches the desired temp. I think I found a very simple...

My Sanke's Full False Bottom (thanks jaybird)

Do you disassemble the false bottom and remove it when you clean up? I like the idea of slitting the keg to insert the screen. I would like to weld up the cuts after to stiffen the keg, but that would end removing the screen. Looks good by the way! SWMBO hates this site, everytime I log on...

    MLT thermometer probe guard

When I converted my sanke keg, there was a SS tube that ran down from the top valve. I wonder if this tube I removed would work....

    insulated HLT project

cube was..........FREEBEE for me. Somewhere around $120 retail. I'm thinking of shaving it round on the exterior, laminating FRP board to it.

    insulated HLT project

I wasn't planning on putting fire under it. I guess I have my terminology wrong. I'm new to all grain brewing. This will insulate my MLT, or mash vessel. I think that if I preheat the keg with hot water, draing and add grain and mash water, it should maintain a good temp. This foam doesn't...

    insulated HLT project

I work for a company that deals with EPS foam(coffee cup foam). I got the idea to order a 30x30x24 cube with the center cut to slide my keg into. The block is a bit big, I may shave it down and laminate the outsides to keep it from getting banged up. It will have a foam floor and top. The...

    All grain marathon

My first post, so hello to all in brew land. Saturday was my first all-grain brew. I kind of commited myself by doing a yeast starter Fri night. I woke up Saturday morning, having not yet made my keggle brew pot and igloo cooler MLT. Went to Home Deficiency and Dick's for my supplies...
