    Smoked Brown Porter and PH

Well, I'm learning a little everyday, but can't expect to know everything right off. As for meeting the parameters of a smoked porter, dunno. Got the recipe from my LHBS. Sounded good, we'll see. I'm thick skinned, and appreciate any feedback. I have brewed in the past at a basic level...

    Smoked Brown Porter and PH

I ended up donating to Brunwater, to receive their later water spreadsheet. I've looked at quite a few water profile programs, and Brunwaters is great. I went with a profile that was in between a brown and full dark. Pickling lime helped to raise th mash ph. I'm still a long way from fully...

    Smoked Brown Porter and PH

I got a recipe from our local HBS, and it looks great, can't wait to brew it this weekend. I have RO water to work with. My issue is this, I have played around with Brewer's Friend water profile calculator to find out what I need to add to my water for the brew day. I used a profile for London...

    Vermont Water filtration setup

I have a water filtration setup, with a 1 micron filter, and spare filter. Never used system. Built it, then figured out that my hose bib water is post water softener. $50, and I can ship.

    Blonde ale brew day

My friend and I are getting back into brewing, and brewed yesterday for the first time on our new system. It was also our first time brewing a 10gallon batch. Mash tun is a 70 quart Coleman cooler, with brew bag. The HLT is a keggle. The brew kettle, a 20 gallon. We decided to keep it...

    electric hoist

I bought a furniture dolly, and stuck it under my freezer. My plan is to hoist the 60L Speidel, and roll the freezer under, then lower.

    electric hoist

Hey everyone, just a heads up that Northern Tool has a small electric hoist on sale, for $59. I picked one up, to both lift my fermenter into my freezer, as well as lifting grain bag. It is pretty quick, and quiet. Seems pretty sturdy for its size as well...

    It's all about the Aqua!

I ended ordering a small RO system to brew with, $150. With that, I should be able to build water to suit the style of beer brewed. I'm trying not to go too far down the rabbit hole, in terms of the science of water. I do have questions, like when to treat the brew water, before/after mash...

    It's all about the Aqua!

Last year, we had a water filtration system installed. They gave us a water report. Below are the numbers. Are these enough to get me going, to adjust my water for brew day? CaC03 Hardness 14 Fe Iron .7ppm Fe (Post Softener) Iron (Post Softener) .1ppm Mn Manganese 0 pH 7.5 TDS...

    Kettle choices

Hey everyone! Getting back into all grain brewing, after a 7 year hiatus. Unfortunately staring over completely for equipment. I would like to be able to brew up to 10 gallon batches, so thinking of a 20 gallon kettle. I have a line on a keggle for the HLT, and will use a 10 gallon IGLOO...

    What brand of grain?

Well, being the impatient person I am, I went ahead and just ordered one bag of Bairds Vienna(no Best Malz in stock), and one bag of Best Malz Pils, grand total of $73.27 for 110# of grain.:ban: Best of all, I have a relative that will pick it up for me for free. .67 cents/pound ain't too...

    What brand of grain?

:mug:I'm heading up to North Country Malt Supply on Fri. I plan on picking up a bag of pale and a one of vienna. They stock six different brands listed below. Any preferences of brands? They will be used for Centennial blonde, Kolsch and a dunkel. Gambrinus, Franco-Belges, Thomas Fawcett...

Well she's chuggin' away now @ a burp every 3 secs. Moral of the story, aerate your wort properly, and do a starter, which I did not.

Where to score kegs for keggles?

I scored three kegs from a micro brewery. They take kegs out of service regularily. Try and talk to the guys brewing, tell them you're a homebrewer looking to build an all grain rig. I lucked out and ended up bumping into the head brewmaster, he went out of his way to be nice. Good luck!

    Grain bill screw up

I liked the recipe so much, I though about purchasing more grain, enough for two batches, less the Chocolat malt and Carafa. I would mix it all up and vacuum pack 1/2 of it for a future batch. I wonder how long milled grains vacuumed packed will stay usable.

    Grain bill screw up

Here is my dilemma. I called in an order for grain @ my LHBS. I ordered the following grain: 7.25# Pils .5# Carafoam 3.5# Dark Munich .5# American Chocolat(should be .2#) .5# Carafa III(should be .2#) I assumed that they would individually pkg each grain separately. I was going to...

    Frankenfest

I feel like I just raised the dead. I had what I believe was a stuck fermentation. I analyzed what I did. Cooled wort after boil w/ IC. OG was 1.069 adjusted for temp. Pitched lager yeast @ 70 degrees. Wort Was poured through a screened funnel into carboy, so there was some degree of...

    Jump to all grain?

I've brewed 3 all-grain batches, and am drinking the first one. Being able to craft such a complete beer is addicting! Like learningmore said, the biggest change for me was your time brewing will be around 4-6 hours, from setting up to cleaning up. Worth every minute.:mug:
