    Kettle/valve install question

My last kettle I used a flat white washer on the outside. This one kept leaking with the white washer so I switched it to the red one. Everything seems to sit flush but the bazooka tube is just a little cocked.

    Kettle/valve install question

The inside of the kettle has a couple bumps under the washers still but nothing sharp. Everything seals up nicely just the bazooka tube sits a little crooked

    Kettle/valve install question

No leaks what so ever. The main problem cane when my drill battery died. Made a rough cut with the step bit. I sanded it down smooth inside the hole and the edges the best I could

    Kettle/valve install question

So I just installed a valve on my kettle. This is the second one I did but on my first one the step bit went through real easy. Thinner steel I guess. This new kettle took a little more elbow grease but bent the metal a little. I sanded it as smooth as I could and installed the valve. There are...

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

Plus by using the barrel in that capacity I can store all my adjuncts in there and leave my buckets for base malts. All I will put in the "vault" will be in zip lock bags so it's protected from anything there barrel could do anyway. Thanks

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

Plus using one as a"vault" I would not have to worry about the grain being exposed because ask the grains would be in separate bags which all my adjuncts are already. Thanks

I like that idea as using it to store multiple bags of grain in one.

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

I store all my grain in my basement. Low moisture and temp is always 65. I'm really only worried about storing the grain in the barrels if they are not suitable for food. Is there anything that could be damaging to the grain by storing grain in a non food grade barrel??

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

I'm thinking there shouldn't be a problem. Honestly I wouldn't know what kind of issue there would be with studying grains in them or any container for that matter

Thanks. I'm just hoping they are safe to store grains in. I have them soaking right now.

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

They are airtight. So I'm not worried about moisture getting in but I guess I'm worried about the plastic or something nesting up the grains if that is even possible??

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

So if I store loose grain in these I'd be fine, nothing to worry about?

Got these 35 gallon barrel's need advice if they are good grade and safe

Friend of mine has a neighbor that sells these barrels. He works for a kosher food company and claims that they held kosher salt. I bought 2 of them for $20 total. Sight unseen. I took their word for it that they are food grade plastic. The only stampings I can find on them are a #2 on one...

Did I just ruin my kettle?

Link for those asking about the link saying not to use Steel wool. I've talked with people who are dead set against it saying I should toss the kettle and get a new one and others saying it's completely fine like mentioned here, it's for boiling and mash so it really doesn't matter as long as...
