    Nitro style pour using argon

I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone thought "You know, we already use CO2 and nitrogen for beer, but what about OTHER gases?" Not even slightly surprised that it's Yuri was the guinea pig... Way to go, and here's hoping that this opens up a whole new realm of beer...

    First wasted batch

Although starsan is not normally a problem if you get it in your beer, if the starsan in your your blowoff bucket was full of nasty krausen (which, if your beer was actually in need of a blowoff tube, it probably was), chances are the sanitizing power of starsan was dramatically reduced if not...

    Help! My Attenuation sucks

Try a fast ferment test in parallel to your main batch next time. Fast Ferment Test - German Brewing Techniques Just take a pint or so of wort, stick it in a jar, and dump in a teaspoon or so of bread yeast. That's WAY more than enough yeast for the wort volume so it'll ferment fast and...

Wort gushing out of my brewpot....

Well any beer below 1.040 is going to be pretty light, but whether or not it seems "watery" at that low gravity is going to depend on the recipe. I know I say this a lot, but foam control drops really are worth their weight in gold - spend $7 once and you won't have to worry about boilovers...

    Oxygenation Stone

It appears that in the video that's a standard aquarium airstone, which is a whole lot different than a 0.5 micron stone. I've been using oxygen with a 0.5 micron stone for a long time and I've never gotten much more than a tiny amount of foam on the surface. After all, foam is just gas that...

    Is this a proper mash-out?

There are several brewing software packages out there that can do this kind of calculation for you easily and accurately, such as Beersmith or beer tools pro. Not trying to say you shouldn't ask questions by any means, but brewing software can save you a ton of time on a regular basis - I...

    Keg o-rings - silicone vs Buna-N

Silicone ones are what they often used originally, but IIRC that's mainly because they give longer life - they're not exorbitantly expensive in a per-unit-price sense, but when you have to buy a whole pack of them at once it's pretty steep so I don't see the point. For us homebrewers who can...

Alright, this is just getting ridiculous

The bottle recommends 1-2 drops per gallon. I find that during the boil I only need to be on the lower end of that range (1 drop per gallon or a little more) but for fermentation I need to be toward the higher end (8-10 drops in 5 gallons). But don't forget you can always go easy on it at...

    Recommend Mash: No??

Right. It's not that they recommend that you DON'T mash it. That sort of field is there for people who are doing extract with steeping grains, to know whether they can use a particular grain since they are not mashing. If you are mashing, there is absolutely no reason NOT to include Carafa...

For all the guys with long hoses

Holy long shanks, batman! :p I have a sanyo 4912 kegerator and I have a 5 foot line on one tap and about an 8 foot line on the other (yeah, I know, but I just haven't ordered from any place with beer line for a while, so it's what I've got). With the longer one I just sorta drape a loop down...

Alright, this is just getting ridiculous

You know, foam control drops really are worth their weight in gold sometimes... I can't even remember the last time I used a blowoff tube or had to clean anything out of an airlock other than a few drowned fruit flies :p

    $39 chiller @ B3

Other than when it was brand new, every single time I check morebeer's site for the deal of the day in the late morning or early afternoon, it's sold out. And they don't even show you what you just missed. Seems like it's only attracting the people who regularly check it at the crack of dawn...

    Haus Pale Ale too light?

Yeah, kegging really is so much easier... FWIW, if you do bottle again, it's a good idea to fill each bottle more than you have in that picture - I'd say probably half that much headspace.

acetone aroma, crazy gushing.. whats up?

I had a batch that was EXACTLY like this. It smelled just like acetone (and not just a hint, but an overwhelming wallop), had a very "hot" solvent/alcohol taste, and rapidly progressed to serious gushers on every bottle, and even had the nice telltale crud rings in the necks of the bottles...

Making a gallon starter for pacman yeast HELP!!

FWIW, some useful tips for this type of thing that are pretty easy to remember and don't require any real math to use: DME is about 45PPG (SG points per pound per gallon), and corn sugar (and probably table sugar, etc) is about the same. So, 1 pound of DME or corn sugar (or a mix of the two)...

    Wort Chiller Enough?

Are you looking to do 5 or 10 gallon batches? 25' of 3/8" tubing is very common for 5 gallon batches and works fine. 50 feet of 1/2" seems to be pretty suitable for 10 gallon batches. I don't think I've seen many people mix the two and do a 25' chiller with 1/2" tubing... No reason it won't...

Any recipe clone for Dogfish Head 120 minute?

22lb of corn sugar in that?? Wow... There is a good article in BYO about brewing a 21% ABV all-grain beer. Even if you're not brewing AG you can still get some good info about the actual fermentation. http://www.byo.com/feature/1556.html

Going to be First Time Hop Grower!

Maybe it's just me... but none of that grain even looks crushed in those pictures!? As far as hops, they are planted in the spring, which is why most places won't have rhizomes until then - and even february sounds way early, usually rhizomes don't become available until more like...

Going from partial mash to All Grain, be nice!

Well, in case you didn't know, the entirety of the "how to brew" book is available online for free at howtobrew.com - that's got more than enough info to get you started. You definitely ought to have a handle on the basics before you dive in - at least you need to get a handle on more of the...
