Why is batch sparging better/faster ?

For me it was cheap and easy to do batch sparge. I think I spent about $15 total and I was comfortable doing it. I don't think I have any other reason. Do I need one? I didn't want to deal with sparge arms, or water level or any of that stuff.

    hopstopper users...

From what I hear cold break from an IC is enough to clog the hopstopper. I built mine so I could use a plate chiller.

    hopstopper users...

this turned out much better than mine, I used 30x30 .23 wire and it is super, super stiff. I think it will filter pretty decent though. Can I ask how much your wire cost? I went off a suggestion from the green board and I really wish I would have gotten the finer material.

Is 70 quart coleman extreme too large for most 5 gallon batches?

I don't really know my depth, I'd say 4-6 inches probably, I'm doing batch sparge and it works great.

    Anyone built a hybrid chiller?

troegs uses one like that. It is about 15' long. they said it works much better than their old plate chiller did.

The greatest beer in all zee vorld!

yeah I have to agree, there were some parts that were disapointing. Overall I really liked it but when he drowns in the beer because the yeast sucked him down.. That was stupid. My biggest gripe was they didn't show enough of the sweedish chicks.

The greatest beer in all zee vorld!

I assume most of you have seen brewfest at this point. I'm wondering what style of beer they are refering to? Since it is from Bavaria would it be a Hefe wiezen?

is there a reason this pump won't work?

I don't understand why that would be any better? Temp is not an issue, the wort will be below 70 when it is pumping.

is there a reason this pump won't work?

I see more beer sells virtually the same pump I have except 110v as a wort transfer pump. Since I will be running chilled wort through it aeration is not a bad thing. Also while I know it is rated at a certain PSI I'm fairly certain that at wide open flow it will be barely any pressure...

is there a reason this pump won't work?

Guys I have this pump already, http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product2_6970_527_527 I know it is rated at 170* but my plan is to place it after the chiller so the temp will be cool. It is a diaphram style. Is there any reason it would not work or hurt my beer? I'm...

Look for a place to use a plasma cutter, you will get a much better result. Just call around to some shops and ask if they will do it. You don't want the sabre saw, trust me.

    byo 150 clone brew help

I have the recipe book at home, if you check the AG process it reads like there should be two types of grain, one I think is 6 pounds then 3 pounds of something else. I don't know if it is a typo or what? Brewpastor does your AG instructions look correct? could you tell me the grain it...

    byo 150 clone brew help

The main recipe is extract and it uses two kinds and about 10oz of corn. The AG lists I think about 6 pounds of base and 3lbs "blank" tells you to mash it all together. Since normally the speciality grains don't change I assume it is another base malt. It might be more corn. I'll write them...
