Heady Topper: Drink from the can or from the glass

I vote for can. I've tried both, mostly because I thought 'beer is always better in a glass, especially an IPA since I want to smell it'...I liked how the can concentrated the aroma and I had zero issues smelling the hoppy goodness. For me, HT lives up to the hype. There are a few other IPAs...

    Equipment List for Homebrewing Class

As per your original question... I'd add a hydrometer and test cylinder. Also a refractometer. People seem to get excited/intrigued by the refractometer. Also, you could add a grain mill and explain different types and the effect of having the proper crush. extra credit question on the...

Can a Bazooka screen work for a mash tun?

I use a bazooka screen in a 10g cooler and batch sparge - and love it. My screen was a little long for the cooler, but I just 'rolled up' the end a little more and it fit just fine. The screen does let a little more through than the water-line braid, but the grain provides a good enough...

    Beers/Breweries of Maine

HA! Definitely misread that...'yeah, I guess I could time it during my drive to stop there for lunch...' Thanks!

    Beers/Breweries of Maine

Thanks for the responses... I'm staying in a cabin on a lake near Camden. The girlfriend has already agreed to at least two brewery tours, so I'm hoping for three. I'll be driving up so can hit something on the way. Allagash and Maine seem the tops - then maybe one of the others you've...

    Beers/Breweries of Maine

I'm heading to Maine at the end of June/start of July... - What breweries should I visit? Allagash is high on the list, but I care more about good tours/unique breweries than I do about the brewery with the best beer (assuming I can just buy the beer eslewhere in the area). - What beers do...

Drink all night and never get drunk?!?

From Esquire mag online: http://www.esquire.com/blogs/food-for-men/how-not-to-get-drunk?click=feed I don't love the idea, but there are times when I want to drink more and not got as drunk...sometimes. Still interesting. Sorry if this is here already - couldn't find it.

    Building Kegerator

CO2 definitely does not need to be chilled. The regulator's 'CO2 remaining' gauge will not read correctly inside the fridge, but many folks keep it in there for ease and a cleaner look.

Water volumes, sparging, low efficency -HELP

First run reading isn't really important. I just keep notes on stupid stuff. I remember reading on here about someone having unmalted barley by mistake and getting super low gravity. My other guess is the crush, but your gravity is so low that there has to be something to it. Maybe your...

Water volumes, sparging, low efficency -HELP

I think that having more details would be helpful for people to give you pointers. There has to be something major to cause you to mash 16 pounds of grain and only get '1.010 and 1.020'. If you give a recipe and explain your methods, folks could help out more. I am a new AG brewer (7 batches)...

Water volumes, sparging, low efficency -HELP

Can you provide recipe details? 1.010 to 1.020, even for preboil gravity is really low. How much grain are you using?

Water volumes, sparging, low efficency -HELP

Probably a dumb question, but putting it out there... Are you using post-boil gravity in determining your efficiency? I'm assuming you are, but your question about a 90 minute boil and adding more water makes me wonder if you're using pre-boil gravity, thus giving you much lower...
