    Burner in doors

A few folks have compared the 55,000 BTU capacity of the turkey fryer with the maximum out put for a gas oven (Propane in my house). So I looked up a moderate Kenmore and found the following: (running at full tilt) No. of Burner Cooking Zones 4 Burner Configuration High output: one 12,200...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

My slight variation on this recipe (mostly in yeast choice, I'm using the WPL English Cider yeast) has been sampled for the first time. After 2 weeks in the bottle, 1# lactose added w/ 5oz corn sugar @ bottling, and stored at about 59F, is still slightly undercarbonated, but SWMBO and I...

    Labeling Questions

I used Powerpoint to edit my labels, and printed on a standard color laser printer & paper. The wife applied labels with rubber cement. (goes on easy, comes off easy). I don't label every batch, but we did label a case for my father, which we gave as a christmas gift.

    Chocolate Vs. Head

I recently did just about the same thing. Though I used 1lb (2x8oz) of Hershey's cocoa in my wort (added w/ 10 minutes to go in the boil. WOW, what a foaming!) Should be interesting to see how it comes out, though I really don't care about head on my beer. I still don't understand it's...

    Temperature Probe Malfunction

If the tip of the probe is touching the side of the pot, you'll get an off reading. The temperature of the metal can be (and likely is) MUCH greater than that of the liquid inside. I've had trouble, but not in the boil. It was in the cooling. I couldn't get a batch of wort to cool below...

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    Not me! ( hope, see work below: :D ) 1st batch - 4 gal 2nd batch - 5 gal ---------------------- My total - 9 gal 107.0 + 9 = 116Gal 116Gal total thread volume. :mug:

    Man, I love Apfelwein

This doesn't Krausen the way that malt based beverages do. At most, the foam has only ever been about 1/2" tall. I'm using the same sort of setup, with only a few inches of room, and I'm not worried at all about blowout. (If it doesn't blow out with this WHOOSH of fermentation, it's not...

    Any perfect records?

I'm only 4 batches in, and I go fairly simple, but none have been bad for me yet!

    bulk extract?

Hmmmm.... tempting.... I only use extra-light anyway, and color with grains. Now... can I get it past SWMBO? How big is the box it stores in?

    Man, I love Apfelwein

After fermenting out the first batch, I went for a second... :D Poured the new juice right onto the old yeast cake (WLP 775 English Cider Yeast) and propped it up on the dining room table while I brewed my new stout. In less than an hour it was bubbling. Overnight, a hurricane has formed...

    Thinking about making banana beer.

First off, if the man laws we're talking about here are thoe ones in the Miller commercial, they should be ignored anyway... afterall, they come from MILLER! And I'm not taking any advice from either Miller, or Burt Renyolds. And if you're going to have a commercial, with the men of Miller...

    Removing existing labels

I should add that I often do both the dishwasher sanitzing & the oxyclean label removal in the same step. I simply add oxyclean to the dishwasher when runnning through it's sanitize cycle. The labels fall off, and I have sanitized bottles, all in one step. I do, of course, start with...

    bulk extract?

My LHBS has the same setup. He seems to sell mostly light LME, so that's what I buy from him in bulk form. I suplement with light DME if I'm trying to get lighter beer, and use specialty grains to get more color if that's what I'm looking for. Cheaper than DME, I can't use 55# in a...

    Cleaning/sanitizing bottles

I clean them as I empty them, then store. On bottling day, I fill up the dishwasher, and set to nuclear hot. (Sanitizing rinse/hot wash). Fill as usual. The dishwasher takes a while to get it done, but it's set it & forget it on the morning of a brewsession.

    Thinking about making banana beer.

From the number of google hits, it's been talked about a few times anyway! Along with recipes... http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=t&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2004-48,GGLD:en&q=banana+beer+recipe

    White Labs WLP029 thoughts?

one would ask "How 'way past' the date?" If it's marching on I'd bet you're fine as long as your sanitation was fine to begin with.

What has been your Hefeweizen fermentation time?

No starter. 35ml White labs vial. I'm used to using smack packs that are in the 'days old' category. (This may likely put me into ALWAYS with a starter, but I'm not worried about it. I wasn't in a rush to get it out of the primary.) Yes. I believe in the power of aeration. I whisk the...

looking for a couple clones please help

BTW, my post came from the "international version" of Clonebrews. While some of the international beers they have I understand, It'd be far easier for me if I could have one that has primarily North American beers. There is some damn tastey stuff around, and the recipes are really pretty...

What has been your Hefeweizen fermentation time?

Not alone... Same temps, same ferment time (WPL320 American Hefe yeast) I was going to bottle last weekend, but the LHBS was closed (probably due to snow on Monday), so I skipped the bottling session as I usually bottle the same day I brew. My first Wheat ale (dry yeast, Safeale T-58)...

    Removing existing labels

The worst labels I've removed have been a joy with oxyclean. Overnight will have them fall off by themselves, but an hour or so, and they'll slide right off manually.
