    Maximum Final Gravity...

Same here, I think. Earlier in thread, I mentioned 2 areas I wish did better at: Cooling: I might have shocked the yeast by pitching at to warm a temp (I think it was still in the 90's). Solution: Ordered immersion chiller from LHBS, so this might go smoother next time. (Ice melted too...

    Hello from Deutschland

Welcome! My cousin was stationed in Germany right before Desert Storm, and at family reunions he still talks about the beer when he got a chance. Guess I should have gone into the service.

    Maximum Final Gravity...

Well, thanks for all the replies regarding swirling the wort and waiting. Did that on Sunday. Today is Tuesday -- still 1.022 Guess it's done, good, bad or ugly. Thoughts?

    So I just finished

changing the oil on my Corolla. Something strange was going on....when I was pouring the 4 quarts through the funnel into my engine...I kept seeing wort and thinking, "wonder how this is going to turn out in a few weeks...." :drunk:

    Still don't understand Specific Gravity

Can somebody help enlighten me on SG? I understand OG and FG (I think), and reading glossaries and stuff, thought SG was just the umbrella term to cover these. But now I'm thinking I don't understand it at all after reading recipes over on hbd.org. Consider: Oktoberfest Style Ale...

2nd brew day much smoother than first

Do you have gas or electric? Even on my crappy electric (man, I miss gas), doesn't take me that long. Maybe you need to replace the element? I had the same problem, I think you're ok at 78 after 45 minutes. I was a bigger offender, stopping at 30 minutes and it was still above 90. I didn't...

    Maximum Final Gravity...

Hm. Just pulled my Palmer book, and on page 253, he seems to recommend Muntons extracts as one of the more better attenuating. But you're referring to yeast, so I don't know. At any rate, the was an Edme extract (English IPA) 2/ 3lbs of LDME. Based on what I'm reading in Palmer and here...

And if it doesn't, then just call it a day at 1.02'ish and bottle and hope for the best?

    Maximum Final Gravity...

Howdy folks, Working on my 1st 5 gal coming off mr. beer, and am getting a tad concerned on day 13 of fermentation here. Unadjusted for temperature, my OG was 1.052. sounded ok to me. Today (day 13) I'm getting 1.022. I looked at just about all the recipes over on hbd.org, and I...

    Screw cap bottles okay?

I'm still a n00b, but I've read 2 books and been scouring this forum and other sites, and everything I've read says, "never use twist offs."

    First Brew on its Way!

Yeah, well I've fallen into both your first Fact 1. statistic and even more so, your second Fact 2. statistic, so that adds up to 100% for me, so you should change Fact 3. to 0%, because I'm a good sample! :drunk:

    Harsh!!!

The only HB I have available right now is "Blue Lightning", a blueberry puree addition to the fermenter. I don't like it much at all. But my girlfriend bought me a MrBeer for xmas, and got me into this whole HB thing, so I had one can left and figured I owed her one, since she doesn't really...

Green Beer? Well its not green, well mabe it is

I'm just a n00b at homebrewing, but you said the kit was a "light german beer". Lemon tasting and empty...maybe that's just the style? A lot of the germans I've been drinking lately could be described as a very a very lemon hop flavor. I'm drinking Flying Dog Hefeweizen now, and it's more of an...

    My First 5 Gal. batch

Hey now! I'm into day 9 of ferm. on my first 5 gal. It's just an all extract: 4lbs Edme English IPA + 3 lbs light DME. Thought I would post how it went and to make it more interesting, add a poll of mistakes I took note of. I had a little Mr. Beer under my belt, so this wasn't a huge jump...
