    Developing Your Palate

I know its been said above already but tasting with other people and sharing what you are tasting with other people helps a great deal to help you understand what you are tasting. I also found it very helpful to read reviews of different beers (like the commercial calibration in zymurgy...

Whats up with this Citra Shortage?

Didn't know about the flood, that's a bummer! Seems like there is something affecting their yields all the time. I forget what exactly it was last time, heat or drought or something? Hopefully there will still be enough to go around and the price doesn't get jacked up!

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Pecan Scottish 80/-

Thanks for the advice. I already made the beer and ended up adding 1/2 lb to the last 15 minutes of the boil and 1/2lb to the primary after toasting and roasting them, so I'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Advice on adding nuts to beer?

Thanks for the info all! I was a little quick on the draw so it was too late to add them to the mash, but I toasted them and let them sit on a paper bag, them roasted them and let them cool. I tossed 1/2 a pound into the last 15 minutes of the boil, and a 1/2 pound into the primary. After...

    Adding apple juice to fermenter

I am making a beer with apple juice but I can't get a straight answer on whether or not the juice needs to be boiled before I add it to the fermenter. If its pasteurized it's ok right? Should I put it in secondary before adding the juice?

Whats up with this Citra Shortage?

I have been using the falconers flight in place of amarillo for the past year and have had excellent results. Swapped it on a couple of IPA's and an APA and neither of them missed the amarillo one bit.

I agree. I made a Stout that finished way too high, around 1.030 from a 1.075 OG. I said screw it and carbonated it up anyways and drank it, and it tastes great. In fact one of my cousins tasted it and said it was the best stout hes ever had. Its definitely not the best stout I have ever had...
