Where is everyone buying the strut? None of my local home improvement stores (HD, Lowes, Sutherlands) seem to carry it. I found some online, but it is a lot higher than what gifty74 quoted in post #6.
I brewed a New Belgium 1554 clone. It tasted great at the first racking but odd at the second. Tonight, my first glass (and second, and third) out of the keg had a mild vinegar smell and taste.
It's definitely not something I want to drink. But can I cook with it? Like it's a dark...
I noticed that my last two batches (a kolsch and a bock) were both very sweet. They were good, just really sweet. I brewed another batch this past weekend and for the first time I measured the temperature of the mash. It was running about 10 deg F too high.
Thanks for the posts about the...
My LHBS keeps theirs on the shelf. I asked about it one time and the guy said it sold fast enough that he didn't worry about the shelf life. I bought a 25 pack of Lalvin wine yeast and I decided to keep those in the refrigerator since I will run through them slowly.
Thanks Reno!
So, is the initial olive green color anything to be concerned about? All my past ciders (a dozen or so) have always been a gold-ish color. This was the first batch with this particular variety of juice, though. All the others have been grocery store brands.
I made a gallon of hard cider from unpasteurized juice from a local orchard. I managed for forget about it for a month or so and then noticed that the airlock had run dry when I checked it. I refilled the airlock after another month the cider had changed colors to an odd olive greenish color...
Cool. Thanks for sharing. That's much better than putting the carboy up to a jet washer (or whatever it's called) or doing what I do ... picking the carboy up and shaking like crazy.
Very nice! I've been looking for something "different" to make my portable kegerator out of. A whiskey barrel might be a little large, but seeing something cool like this does light a fire under me to keep looking for something different.
Thanks for posting it!
Interesting idea. I like it! My keg is 8" so 12" pipe would allow for plenty of ice room.
Wheels and a handle, it would be about like a wheeled golf bag. I like your idea of tap on the side instead of a tower.
BTW, lots of recipes here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f81/
Probably stuff that's tried and true versus my "I think I'll try this today" experiments. :)
But, I've found "I think I'll try this today" to be a lot of fun.
I used to make a lot of ciders with raspberries in them. Maybe a 1/2 pound of frozen raspberries per gallon of apple juice. That stuff was awesome.
Since then I've gotten a little lazy. I just put juice (R. W. Knudsen from the grocery store) into the primary with the apple juice. I've...
I made a batch of Skeeter Pee that I thought was OK. Not great (maybe I had let my anticipation get the best of me), but OK.
That was until SWMBO suggested sangria. In the first batch we added 1 cup of raspberries and 1 cup of blackberries to a half gallon of Skeeter Pee. It was great, but...
