    Large Fermenters

Any large stainless stock pot would make a great open fermenter. I use a 36 quart for my 5 gallon all-grain batches and have never "krausened" over the lip.... so I'd think a 80 quart would easily do 10 gallons. Remember that you don't need heavy-duty for this task since you're not worried...

    STC-1000 for eHLT?

    Most basic electric possible

To vary the heat you need more equipment. Either a PID set to manual (a bit complicated to set up, but not too bad), or you could buy some sort of packaged system. I believe highgravitybrew.com has a 220V electric boil controller called "Electric Kettle Controller". It's a bit spendy at...

    First Burnt Batch..

Are your elements in the bottom of your kettle (rather than in a rims tube)? I've read some posts that talk about trying to pump liquid too fast and the grain bed can't drain as fast as the liquid is being pulled away from the element. The theory is that this can result in the element being...

    Split Batch Brewing

I've done this with BIAB. I was making a porter, pulled the bag and didn't try to drain or squeeze every last drop out of the bag. Put it in a bucket off to the side. I boiled and hopped the porter, gave the equipment a quick wash/rinse, added half as much water as the original full batch and...

    Stubby bottle catastrophe!

I have a bench capper and have shattered some regular 12oz bottles before. The ones that shattered were all from the same brand of beer (can't recall which one).

Ebay stir plate speed controler wiring ebay

For this low current application you'll probably be fine, but I tried to build a boil level controller on the weekend using one of these voltage regulators designed for 2000w on my 1500w element and it fried the voltage controller. It looks like it heated up the heat sink so much it melted the...

    Electric Brewery Build with Coolers.

If you leave water around your element that long, you might start to get some rust forming on the plated base that the heater cool is attached to.

    Sanitary Aeration

I just use a paint mixer in the end of a drill. Works really well and super fast.

Actually, he said exactly the opposite.

    5g Stovetop + heatstick?

I don't think 2000w will boil that much liquid on it's own, but maybe in conjunction with your stove it could work. You can run a 240V element on 120V and you'll get 1/4 the wattage. You can NOT just connect two 120's to your 240V element... There's nothing to connect your neutral wires to...

    Making hole for element question

For what it's worth, I did a wet test using a hole cut with one if these 1" NPT punches and it will seal properly with the stock rubber gasket that comes with the heater element inside the kettle, but NOT with the method Kal uses. I'm not sure how food safe that gasket is, but it must be...

Good stuff! I'm building a boil control module out of a 120V 2000W dial... hopefully it goes as well. :)

Will this cheap 3500 watt induction burner work?

This is awesome... thanks! I'm impressed with that boil of such a volume of liquid. I've been debating buying one of these instead of installing an element and your video is steering me closer to that... the only thing holding me back is not being able to control it with a PID, so I'll still...

Induction Plate not Boiling quite right

Is anyone who is using induction plates controlling them with a PID? My gut suggests to me that this shouldn't work since I don't know how the induction plate is going to respond to the pulsed input power of the PID.

This isn't the exact same as yours, but I think all of these are just scaled up or scaled down versions of each other... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/370720922300?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Second picture shows wiring.

I bought one of those (or something similar as well). I don't remember which of the many sellers I bought this from, but one of the listings for this item had a schematic showing which terminal to connect to what. Have a look at other similar listings on ebay and I'll bet you'll find it.

Small Volume BIAB Electric Component Advice

I've been considering the same thing, and I'd go 3000W or larger if you have a 240V outlet you can use. You can always turn it down if it's too much, but you can't turn it up if it's not enough. There's a 3500W cooker on Amazon for (a bit pricey) $179. I've been thinking about going...
