    CPVC Counterflow Wort Chiller

When I read the title of the thread I was worried you were actually going to make a CPVC Counterflow chiller... It looks like it will work fine but keep us updated if you do find any problems with it after a bunch of batches.

Motorize grain mill will a drill?

I friend of mine is doing this. He has a drill that quit working due to a faulty switch so he ripped it apart and put a new rocker switch in line. The motor will be mounted without the plastic drill housing.

    Keezer powered external fermentation chamber

I've done this same thing but with two freezers, one works as a freezer and the other one is dead so I use the working freezer to cool the dead one. I found out that pulling cold air out of the freezer and cool air back in is a bad idea, you get a LOT of condensation in the freezer which...

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

Yes it is a stupid law because you are allowed to bake cakes, cookies, bread..ect for resale but not beer. Making beer is just like baking.....

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

Federal law does not allow for alcohol production in a residential area unless it is zoned for agriculture. This is why they have the 200 gallons per year per adult in a household law.

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

You have to keep in mind when you use electricity to heat 100% of the energy goes into heating the liquid, when using gas a lot of the energy gets lost because you are heating the pot to heat the liquid and a lot of heat goes right past the pot. Most of the time electricity will cost less per...

    Score!!!!

The Pin lock and Co2 tank are great but the sanke's are tough to use without the proper cleaning and filling equipment.

    Hot side oxidation and HERMS

I have a copper manifold that sits on top of the grain bed.

    Hot side oxidation and HERMS

I believe in HSA because I had a problem with it for a while. For those that brew 5 - 10 gallons it's not an issue because the beer does not sit long, when you have kegs sitting for 6 months it becomes an issue. I do believe that pre-boil HSA is not much of an issue because you will boil it off...

    Are SSRs really necessary?

Okay I will add that to my list. That valve is not made for gas, only liquid.

    Are SSRs really necessary?

I'm having a hard time understanding what you guys mean by "faster switching time". When using a SSR you switch it with the relay on the PID, it doesn't matter if you use a SSR or not the relay on the PID is what ultimately switches the power on/off. The speed of the SSR is dependent on the...

    Keg Connection Problem (literally)

It sounds like you used a keg post o-ring and not a QD o-ring. The internal o-ring should be flat.

Did switching to a plate chiller throw off your volumes?

Close the ball valve, switch to hot water and open the valve. I've been doing it like this for 10 years and never lost prime once.

Buy a pump or counterflow wort chiller?

I agree with this. You can use a CFC/plate chiller without a pump but they are a hassle to clean without one.

    SSR size

It depends on the wattage of the elements, not the voltage.

    Cheap chinese ebay stuff

My SSR's are switched with 12vdc so I wired all of my LED's on that side of the SSR's. 12vdc LED's are cheap and easy to find.

1bbl - HERMS, RIMS, or direct

I use a HERMS in mine and it takes about 30 minutes to go from 155 to 168 in my HLT with a 4500w element. Using a stir motor in the HLT helps a lot to keep the mash temp rising at the same rate as the HLT while the HERMS is in use. I have spa timers to turn on the brewery before I wake up so I...

Homebrewing myths that need to die

If I were to drink as much as I do of the styles I brew it would cost me more to buy it then to brew it. I buy everything in bulk so a 30 gallon batch costs me about $40, a 15.5 gallon keg of craft beer runs about $175. I built my brewery for $1500 9 years ago and it has pretty much paid for itself.

Did switching to a plate chiller throw off your volumes?

I have a pot of boiling water ready while I'm chilling and as soon as my boil pot is empty I run that through the chiller to flush out any remaining beer into my fermenter. As soon as it runs clear I just recirculate the hot water through it to clean it out with the chilling water turned off.

Piggyback cord wiring for float switch

That is the same type of float switch I am using but mine is stainless. You cannot piggyback that float switch, it is rated at 30v so you need to run low voltage through it. Your RIMS needs a temp controller with a probe in the tube to hold the temp, that is all you need because you will be...
