    House Rules for Brewing

#1 for me is to tell my wife a week in advance so there is no schedule conflict. #2 Clean as you go or it is more work in the end when you are tired. I don't have a beer until the first hop addition, it's not really a rule because it gets broken when people come by to brew. If I'm alone I...

Does kegging really save any time?

I've cleaned 18 kegs in about an hour with my keg washer. It takes me about an hour to sanitize and fill 5 kegs from a 25 gallon batch so in two hours I've filled the equivalent of 12 cases of beer.

    Upgrading

You can use Brass but it's best if you soak it in vinegar first to remove lead from the surface. There are a lot of places to get stainless on the internet.

    my hydrometer and refractometer disagree

I have the same problem. I have two hydrometers and they both read the same, my refractometer was way off and was calibrated with RO water. It constantly reads about 1.012 higher then my hydrometers. I bought a new refractometer and it reads about 1.008 higher and it was calibrated with RO water...

    No-drill enclosed kegerator

Drill from the inside first!!! The coolant lines are stuck to the outer skin, you can drill with a 1/8" drill bit and still hit one from the outside. You can drill a 1/2" hole in the inner plastic and stick your finger through the insulation to find the coolant lines.

Any other recent/to be new Dads?

They're cute when they are little but before you know it they get big. My wife has always allowed me to brew as long as I planned it ahead of time, now I have to get approval from everybody. My daughter used to just want piggy back rides, now she want's me to teach her to drive..... They...

So, I looked at my morebeer.com order history...

I buy all of my ingredients in bulk so a 25 gallon batch runs from $30 to $50. I built my brewery years ago so I haven't spent any money on equipment in a long time except for the $250 in cam locks a few months back. Once you have everything set up your costs will drop and the beer does get...

Question about cops and for those who live in Association communities

I live in CA in the LA area but it's pretty laid back here. I had the cops show up but they were just driving by and wanted to see what was going on on my driveway, when they found out I was brewing they asked a lot of questions about the process and how much was legal to brew (I have a 1bbl...

How do you brew when lagering

That's what I do also. I transfer into 5 kegs and put them in the fridge, when I want to serve one I transfer it into a clean keg and leave the trub behind.

    Stirplate build keeps throwing bar!?

Here are a couple of things I found out while building stirplates... Glue a wood spacer to the fan so the rare earth magnets don't interfere with the fan motor. By the time you put enough power to it to overcome the magnets it starts spinning too fast. Stick your magnets to your stir bar...

    STC 1000 question

You have the black wire right but the white wire going to the freezer should not be there. The white wire to the freezer should splice directly into the white wire powering the controller.

    Aluminum Kegs?

You will definitely know if they are SS or aluminum when you cut the top, aluminum is much easier to cut. I highly doubt they are aluminum though.
