Wife gave me "kegerator of my choice" for Father's day

I got one of those and grew out of it pretty quickly, especially if you want more than 1 beer on tap with room for soda and bottles of beer.

Keggle, Step Bit, and Burned Metal

I've cut over 10 holes with my HF step bit and just used water to keep it cool. As I'm cutting I run water over it and it never gets a chance to get hot, when you use WD-40 the oil and the stainless gets hot which hardens the metal and dulls the bit.

How do you increase alcohol percentage?

Since you are a new brewer you would be much better off buying an Imperial IPA kit other than just adding more extract to raise the alcohol % of an IPA. Beer is all about balancing the ingredients so the beer doesn't turn out hot from alcohol or too bitter from hops. Read books on brewing IPA's...

Blichmann Therminator. Sterilize with hot wort?

I think I would recirculate hot PBW through it the day before to make sure it is completely clean and then stick it in a bucket of sanitizer while your pump is being used for brewing. As long as it's clean and gets filled with sanitizer you should be fine.

    Temperature contol probe

Do not put the probe directly into water, you don't know if it is water proof and it could ruin it. I just let mine hang so I get the temperature of the air in the freezer.

    Jet burner question

Jet burners don't require an oriface. The gas/air mixture happens right at each tip so you can thread the burner right onto your black pipe.

Beer With Kick Is Caught in F.D.A.’s Net

Everybody saw right through what she was selling, she was not a brewer, she is a marketing person and everybody into craft beer saw that. She was selling a bottle of crap and calling it craft...

brew sculptures single tier or 3 tier?

Everybody's needs are different so it is really what YOU want out of your system. A single tier requires pumps, a 3 tier doesn't but you'll want one anyways. I have a 2 tier because I like to gravity feed my BK....

I'm looking for a good Grain Mill...?

I have to agree with the others. Save up and buy a good mill, the 2 roller C&S is around $130

    Cheap and simple camlock protector

I like that!! You could also cut a small piece and glue in in the end to make it a cap to keep bugs out.

    Dull ugly kettle

My pots came out of a scrap yard and had paint on them, once the paint was off they looked very dull like yours. I used Bar Keepers friend and a green 3M scrubby pad and made sure I scrubbed in one direction with a thick paste of BKF. They turned out nice and shiny with minimal work.

    Plate filter vs. canister filter

If the beer is already carbonated it is best to transfer to a fresh keg under pressure, this keeps the foaming down. I use about 20psi to transfer. Here is my procedure for transferring from keg to keg. Use a cobra tab to remove the first bit of yeast. Hook up the transfer line to both kegs...

Its Official: No more DIY projects

I like to build stuff and home brewing gives me plenty of projects to tinker with. My complete brewery would cost about $10,000 if I bought it new, I paid about 1/3 of that price and it really wasn't about the savings it was about the fact I can say I designed it and built it all myself. Just...

Best way to insert the probe?

If you are going to put the probe on the door why not drill through the door?

    Help! Nicked Fridge Coil

I know it's too late now but if you are going to drill the side of a fridge always drill from the inside!! Even if you drill a 1/8" hole on the outside there is a good chance you will hit a line. Your fridge will cost more to fix then replace.

What are your "can't live without" equipment items?

Good point. If there is a garage door opener they are usually plugged into an outlet in the rafters. Just get an extension cord and a refrigerator off craigslist.

    Better bottle morphed :(

It's not too bad, I'd continue to use it.

Advice on sous vide heating element

I would keep it simple with the 120v element and just plan ahead when you want to cook with it, with 120v you can use it anywhere. Since you will be using a temp controller and a pump to recirculate the water you can turn it on the night before if you have to and it will maintain the temp until...

Cool wort in hot a hot climate

I use a cfc and a post chiller. My cfc get the wort down to 85 and then it runs through a SS coil in an ice bath that gets it down to 65 before going into the fermenter.

    DIY Walk In Cooler Build

The problem with some hot wire cutters is they aren't deep enough to cut large sheets. I made my own with steel fishing leader and a variac. I put steel rods on a table at the height I wanted and slide the sheets across. Just like melted butter!!
