If you really want to get into it cheap and easy with kettles and such that can grow with you, Look up brew in a bag, or BIAB. You will only need two pots and a grain bag... for batches up to 5 gal this will work wonderful. I did it this way and never looked back.. best part is that when i...

    I might be a bad influence :D

Weeeeelll, i for one personally hope BMC NEVER EVER dies... there is a reason i can buy a micro quantity of well modified and consistent grain at .88 a pound... BMC scale of economics to the rescue. Totally agree on how much better my home brew is... if only because i always drink it at its...

Danggone, i find that fermcap is nearly free... almost as free as the other suggestions. Even if you had to order it mailorder it would likely cost you like a dollar a year........ just buy it already, you know you want to!

    Help with Dark Hearted Ale

i just kicked a keg of my all grain two hearted clone. i only used 4 oz of centennial plus 1 oz of dry hop. it was plenty bitter with my 7.5+7.9%abv brew. i think i used a similar hop schedule as u tho i ithink i shifted up 5 minutes on the last three additions. two oz dry hop would probably be...

    Friends paying for beer?!

Yea, sounds to me like a bunch of college age ppl in the OP. Where i see someone caring is when one of the hardcore guys goes a little nutty and gets the attn of the local PD..... noise, vandalism etc.... those type of ppl always seem to be the first to point a finger if it can get them out of...

    Friends paying for beer?!

+1 I used to have moocher unappreciative friends Back in college... wised up and shed the *********s.. never looked back. those pecks are always the ones ruining good things for others via bad choices or over the top behavior. first ones to get you busted.

Do not be afraid young grasshopper..

I found i was less worried about bad batches with all grain... Local lhbs with good prices was ~$40/5 gal batch vs 20/batch ag. Only took me one batch to go all grain via Brew in a bag.... I will teach all my new brewer friends this method. Much less painful on the wallet if you do screw up, and...

    Mold Problem in Kegerator

Bleach is also not a good choice for mold control. It does not kill the spores, and the high water content of the mixture promotes growth... there are so many mold spores in the air that sanitation is a loosing battle. the only real way to control mold is Lack of food combined with removing...

    March Pump - AC-3C-MD

says it is used, and came out of a laser chiller.... pump itself would work fine. What is unknown is the coolant used to chill a laser. Probably not to exotic, but still not ideal. Looks like it comes with a temp controller board. Might work well for a fermentation chilling setup.

love to brew but dont drink much.

might be a good opportunity to experiment with types that need to age longer. barrel aged, barleywines etc.

Freezing CO2 tanks prior to filling.

yeah, the foam will all be at the top anyhow. by the time you serve it it will have settled out. Any excessive foam in your dispense will likely be too high a serve pressure, not opening your tap all the way, warm lines etc.

    squeezing grain bag is bad?

FYI, the method I finally settled on was a two kettle method that worked very well. Mashing in my 8.5 gal ss Boil kettle for 60 min @ 1.33 qts/lb. Leaving the top of the bag draped over the top of the BK and untied stirring within the bag to break up lumps and even the temps. After the mash I...

    squeezing grain bag is bad?

I started brewing with BIAB, and have since moved on, however my first three AG brews I Squeezed. After a horrified look on the face of my LHBS and dire warnings, i was positive i could taste all kinds of off flavor astringency, which was all in my head. I was too hard on my own beer, and was...
