Sierra Nevada 'Life and Limb' Ale

I had one bottle the other night and saved another for Turkey Day. I thought the beer was nice but tasted heavily influenced by Dogfish. Reminded me of Dogfish's Palo Santo Marron. Dark and smooth like a Scotch Ale.

Maui Brewing Co. - Coconut Porter, OMG!

Last April I had the pleasure of vacationing in Maui and shaking the hand of the owner Garrett Marrero. First day in Maui we went to his brew pub and sampled almost every beer on tap. He makes a Red Cock Doppel Bock that is awesome. I stopped by his brewery just to take pics of it and had to...

AHS Pliny vs. the real thing

I have my Pliny Clone from Morebeer in the secondary now with the dry hop addition. My OG reached 1.080 and when I checked the gravity at time of transfer it was at 1.018. Had it in primary for 16 days at 68-70 degrees. By claculations it should be right at 8% abv. like the real deal. I tasted...

Explain your handle / De construct your avatar

I tied in my handle with my love for homebrewing and my job. I'm on Officer of the finest law enforcement agency in the land. California Highway Patrol. Hoorah! I know, weak handle. Its really ironic though, someone who specializes in arresting DUI drivers is a homebrewer. At least I can testify...

    HandHeld FoodSaver w/ accessories $30

I have that piece of trash ziploc gidget. Looked as though it was going to work great. It sucked all the air out and compacted my hops really tight. Throw them in the freezer and the next day they were no longer air tight and had opened at the valve in the bag. I guess its not the machine but...

    Morebeer - Blind Pig kit

I have this kit from Morebeer fermenting as we speak since this past Saturday. I'm shocked that I actually got a decent blowoff from the WLP001. I have used this yeast probably 6 times and have never had blow off. Must be the new Keezer I'm using for a fermentation chamber with a regulated temp...

    Sierra Nevada Estate Ale

Picked up two 22ozers the other night at my local Bevmo. Very good beer and to me tastes much better than their original pale ale. It was over priced at $9.99 per bottle but worth it considering they made it entirely from ingredients grown on their proprty in Chico. Kind of like a homebrew...

    Grassy smell

I harvested here in Sacramento with the hottest time of day at 4-5 p.m. being 102. I used a screen and let air dry in the garage with the garage cracked open about a foot. Well over 150 degrees in there. Took less than 2 days and they were bone dry breaking in half. Weather out here is very dry...

    My Keezer build.

I didn't take any pics of how I sealed it. All I did was put a nice zig zag bead of Liquid Nails - (had to find one that allowed for plastic to wood). Had the wife help me lower it onto the top of the freezer so I wouldn't make a mess and then weighed it down on all four corners for a day or so...

    Show us your Kegerator

Thanks. I was really impressed as well. I originally went with Behr's 2 step stain process and found out the hard way it was a horrible idea. They have a water based stain that flat out sucks. As I was applying the stain it was drying on contact and then blotting and peeling with each stroke. I...

    Fermentation Chamber

I use a 2 stage Ranco Temp. control I picked up from Morebeer. Expensive but allows me to plug in a cooling and a heating device all in one. I have a fermwrap for glass carboys that I can hang in my chest freezer if needed. Its not needed in the summer but come winter I know I'll use it.Your...

    My Keezer build.

I have it set on a carpeted furniture dolly so I can roll it around. Its fairly tall. Just got a couple kegs in the mail from kegconnection and don't have any brew to keg yet. I'm using it as a fermenter right now for a Kolsch I just made. Had no problem loading the 5 gallon carboy.

    Hop Harvest 2009

Got two plants this spring when the father-in-law went to visit family in Oregon. The family has a small winery up there. He gets to telling them that I homebrew my own beer and they proceed to tell him their best friend owns a Hop Farm. They went to visit the friend and he gave them 2 plants...

    My Keezer build.

Spent a week or so putting this Keezer together. Frigidaire 9.0 cu. ft. from Lowes brand new. Went with 1"X6" knot free douglas fir and liquid nailed two together to get a stronger 2"X6". Used Minwax oil based stain. The color was Gunstock. Perlick taps and stainless 4" shanks with nipples.
