    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

I brewed this up 2 weeks ago (70 for 3 days, then the garage which averaged around 45-50F) and just put it in the fridge to cold-crash it. I used the prescribed yeast with a 2L starter. I started with an OG of 1.054 and will end up around 1.01 so not too bad. It's clear, it's a beautiful...

bottling question why use a bottling wand?

You're sucking air, either through the joint in the spigot/tubing, a crack in the tubing or through a gap in the spigot. You can try adjusting the spigot if that's it but they're cheap enough to replace. Anybody got a tip for the end of the bucket, other than tilting?

How can yot yell the bottle is carbed?

Plastic bottles will tell you. I started with a Mr. Beer kit and when I switched to 5 gallon batches I would still use the plastic bottles the kit came with. Eventually I would fill just one and then test by squeezing. When it's rock hard its ready to go.

    Camlock question

Type C is a really small port. I've got one and 1/2" silicone hose doesn't fit snugly at all. I'd have to clamp it if I used it. I recently picked up some B style camlocks and plan on using those. They fit over the threads pretty good.

    What stock pot size?

I do 5 gallon biab batches in a 10 gallon pot. Sometimes the yield is closer to 6-6.5 gallons and that's ok, but at the very threshold of my bucket fermentors. That's a pretty full pot with grain included. If I'm careful at the start of the boil I could probably get 9 gallons of wort rolling...

Looking for Welder in Southern NH

Yeah, I have a problem asking another grown man if he's back-gassing enough.

Looking for Welder in Southern NH

I'm converting to EBIAB and need to install a 1.5" tri-clover ferrule welded onto my stainless kettle. While I'm at it I may as well add another. I'll pick up and drop off, pay up front, wait while you work. Whatever. If anyone knows of someone who charges reasonable rates for quality work...

    EBCIII inspired eBIAB build

I'm planning the same thing and this helps a lot to visualize what I need vs what I want. $2k for controls when I have no plans to grow beyond biab is ridiculous (but BOY would I love one of Kal's boxes!) I've got to get over the idea of "building for the future" and keep it simple. Thanks...

    Ordinary Bitter Boddington's Bitter

Brewed it up last night. I upped the Marris to a full 8lbs (3.63kg) to account for my biab setup and substituted Fuggles for FWH, because I had some to use up. I'm a little heavy on the hops, probably over by 5 grams but I strain through a mesh so there are no hops in the the trub. This was...

    Methanol in wine

For thousands of years nobody even knew what yeast was, what or how it did it. Besides, the whole point is your going to drink the evidence.:mug:

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

Got a jonesin' for it so we're doing it again. May try to tweak it a bit but honestly this beer is close to ideal for this type of style. The last beer was a little less hop-forward than the first, but the head retention was great and I was very very happy how it came out. Hopefully I'll get...

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

I brewed this BIAB and it came out perfect. I am 1/2 way through the batch and it's the best beer I've ever brewed. It's really close to perfect and as far as APA I'm not even going to look for another to brew for a while. Great hop flavor without being too bitter or bomb-like. Big flavor in...

Need Advice for End of Summer All Grain Recipe

I've been looking for a few days now and can't make up my mind. Please help me out: 1.) Has to be an ale. I've got cooling but can't do lager. 2.) Partial to the Hefe/Wheats. I've also got blackberries, blueberries and peaches kicking around, but not married to the idea. I'd love a...

Zymurgy: Best Beers in America (2012)

I think a better list would be the 50 NEW beers of 2012. List seems a little dated and a little one sided, especially at the top.

Free freezer and now I want storage/lagering/fermentation control

I'd be pushing my luck with 3 zones but you never know. I guess it would be easier with a vertical chiller that had the blower on the bottom. Problem with the chest freezer is the coils go all the way around. I'm still going to try it with some foam board. What kind of heat does lagering...

Free freezer and now I want storage/lagering/fermentation control

We bought a new chest freezer for garden and meat storage, so I'm left with a 10yr old, 7cf freezer in excellent shape (my master plan all along!). I've ordered a stc-1000 and an upgraded relay for cold-side control. My priorities are as follows: 1. Beer storage. I want to be able to keep a...

American IPA My 2-time gold winning American IPA

I brewed this last week and tried my first sip after testing gravity. Flat, warm and still unfinished this beer is without a doubt going to be the best one I have made so far. It is recipe #12 for me and my fifth all grain batch (biab). WOW! I opened up the bucket to check it out and was...

    Left with rotten sticks...

I had a crash + burn this Spring too. I planted direct into the soil before any sprouting. Nothing came up (or has yet). After talking to some folks I guess it's best to start in pots.
