    Separation in fermenter

Thanks doug, it looks thick and milky on the bottom and thin on the top.... The bottom is definitly thicker than the top. I did not make a starter.... I am not worried about the yeast starting as much as I am the "look" of the wort, since I dont use a starter I expect it to take a bit.

    Advantages to full boils...

What are the advantages of a full boil? I see many advantages to partial boil such as: Cheaper pot Quicker to bring to boil Easier to handle Can get to cooler temps easier when mixing with cooler water

Lagering in a chest freezer... is this too cold?!?

Ok, I want to do some lagers, like heinekin etc... Well, I just figured out I can fit 2 5 gallon carboy's in my chest freezer that I keep my kegs in. I keep my kegs at 29degrees air temperature which equates to about 32+ liquid temp (water JUST BARELY freezes, beer doesnt)... Is this too cold...

    H2o Questions....

Yes, but what I am concerned about is the O2 contend of the water I purchased.

O2 while racking to secondary.... VERY Concerned

Well, I was racking to secondary and noticed that my autosiphon wasnt siphoning. It took me a few minutes before I realized the airleak between the hose and siphon was breaking the siphon. I put some plastic wrap around it to mend the problem quickly. HOWEVER, there were bubbles of AIR...

    H2o Questions....

My question is about using distilled water with minerals added and if it is ok, I am not wondering about the "off flavors" in my beer.

    H2o Questions....

I am relatively new to brewing, this is my 2nd batch. My first batch had some off tastes which I suspect to poor brewing and bad water. My second batch I bought a 5 gallon jug of water only it was distilled. The yeast fermented just fine, its been about 2 weeks and its finally ready for...

I am looking for a good fall brew, here is how I would describe it... Something relatively high in alchohol, 6% or more. I want a light golden beer with an oatmealish flavor with hints of cinnamin and apple. I like to order recipe kits from AHS (Austin Homebrew). Does anyone have anything in...

How to keep temps cool for lagering? Methods wanted!

I am thinking of purchasing the heinekin kit from AHS. I want to know how you all keep your primary at 45-50 degrees.
  20. Mike-H

    Concerned, alchohol content too high?!?

    Yep, 6% for the recipe + 1% alchohol boost = 7%.
