Here's what I do and I get exactly 5 gallons..... I add exactly 5 gallongs of water (either a 5 gallon jug or 5-1gallon containers). This way, by the end of evaporation and the addition of all the ingredients, you end up with 5.25 gallons in the primary exactly. Works pretty good.

I just made an 7-8% beer pretty easily. Go to www.austinhomebrew.com (referred to as AHS here) and get AHS American IPA II, add the 1% alchohol increase when you order and you shall have a strong beer. I know its strong because I just got f'ing ripped on it last night during the EAGLES game!

Wow, everyone relax. I just want to mess around with some yeast and see if my collection methods worked by making a starter that i'm going to THROW AWAY. I dont want to wait 5 days to order airlocks because I dont have any extra. You'd think I killed the pope or something.

My experiment is simply making a starter from my "saved" yeast. It is my first attempt at yeast washing and I want to be sure I did it right. I simply dont have the equipment at hand at the moment. Baloon sounds good....

I want to do some "experiments" mostly just crap I'll throw away. I need to make some contraption that will act as an airlock, I'd like to use an empty water bottle for my tests, Disani water bottle to be exact. Anyone have any ideas?
