    Mash Paddle Wood Substitutions

    Yah, I used poplar on mine and left it untreated and it works great. I went with a larger plank but should have probably done the 1x4x48 as my mash paddle is fricken massive, but it makes a good home security system.

    Thanks, it was a quick effort, I was going to do something more stylized like Cape Brewing's paddle, but lack of a good cutting tool kept it simple. Yah, The Monks Flemmish is great, especially for $3.99 a bottle.

    Water Chemistry for Portland, Oregon

    I'm in Oregon City and we have really soft water also. I haven't been filtering it, but will be starting with this next batch. Like one of the above replies I also have an old house so I'm more concerned about other crap in the water, but it will hopefully also remove any chlorine in the water...
