    Pumpkin beer help

Thank you for that link. thinking I might skip using pumpkin and just use the spices; sounds like a lot of work/mess and only a small amount of flavor. The sweet potato idea does sound interesting, may give that a try. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Pumpkin beer help

I am getting ready to attempt my first pumpkin beer but not quite sure how to brew with pumpkin. I am an extract brewer so I can't put it in the mash so should I steep it with specialty grains or add it to the boil. Also, I will be using canned pumpkin, should I just pour it in and filter the...

What is your favorite local beer (besides Homebrew)

Blue Stallion Brewery in Lexington, KY. Hard to pick a favorite...I guess the Dunkel, or the German Pilsner, or the Oktoberfest. Truthfully, I haven't tried anything thing there that wasn't great.

How long did it take for you to brew a batch you REALLY liked?

I've brewed 5 batches and the only one that was good (actually it was amazing) was batch #3 which was a brewers best pale ale that I added more hops to. Batch one had to mature 6 months before it was drinkable, batch 2 wasn't too bad but had a bottle bomb problem, batch 4 was not drinkable, and...

New Beer brewer with a question!

You should be fine in terms of the beer fermenting in primary for 3 weeks. I don't keg but I'm pretty sure it takes at least a couple days to get it carbonated. Adding priming sugars is definitely not going to help as that process takes some time. One thing you'll learn about brewing is...

The single best beer bar in your state?

Very true. That is the nice thing about the new breweries opening in Lexington. They have rotating guest tap that will even sometimes include their competition from just down the road.

The single best beer bar in your state?

I think I have to agree with that though I have to give props to the Hofbräuhaus in Newport. It was the first one built in the states. Great place to go after a Reds game. They should be tapping their Oktoberfest in a couple of weeks which they have shipped from Munich, instead of brewing it...

My top 10 tips for new brewers

#11. Always carefully measure your priming sugars, even if using a kit. Bottle bombs and bottle cannons (my name for when the cap fires off into your hand when you touch it) are a pain to clean up, make you significant other question if you should be brewing, and are potentially dangerous.

    Beer Fest Suggestion

Yes, Kentucky Ale brews Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. They also brew Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout and the brand new Kentucky IPA. All of it is great stuff and recommend making that one of your 15 stops.

    name for your homebrewery?

My wife runs a dog treat bakery called Paw Prints Bakery so in turn I named my "brewery" Dog Paw Brewery.

    Any homebrewers in SE Kentucky?

I live in the Lexington area. Home brewing is definitely becoming more popular in this area especially with the opening of three new breweries (West 6th, Country Boy, and Blue Stallion) and a craft beer bar/home brew supply store (Lexington Beerworks). Hopefully it will start migrating your...

Brewing an Oktoberfest Beer as an Ale

My wife desperately wants me to brew her an Oktoberfest beer. Since she doesn't complain about my brewing i figured it would be wise to oblige. The problem is that I don't have the ability to lager a beer. I thought Kölsch yeast was going to be the answer but I discovered that it still has to...

How would you rate your beer?

My first beer was a 3, at best. Just started drinking my 3rd beer, a Pale Ale dry hopped with Cascade and Aussie Galaxy, and it is a 7 and hopefully will be an 8.

What I did for beer today

I walked my wife through installing a blow out tube over the phone from work after she texted me that there was a boom that came from my "brewery" (upstairs bathroom closet). I am anxious to get home and make sure my Pale Ale is alright but I also know I am in the dog house for making a mess...
