American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

I made this with marris otter and yeast bay's midwestern ale and it's fantastic.

Lacto Sour with L Plantarum Caps

For one reason or another i got no movement at all for the first 24 hours, but then it started dropping. By 48 hours i hit 3.5 which was my goal. Like most things in homebrewing, patience was the answer.

Lacto Sour with L Plantarum Caps

How long does it take yall to sour with these capsules? Sprinkled 1 in 1 gallon of wort and the pH didn't budge in 24 hours. Added a second about 12 hours ago and still nothing. Started at 100 and let free fall to room temp. Am i missing something or just being impatient? Thought i'd...

Technique for first sour beer - advice needed

I added the first capsule at 100° and let it free fall from there. The Swanson's L. plantarum is reported to work just fine at room temperature, which it is at by now. Just got home from work and it's still at pH 4.6. That's with 24 hours of 1 capsule and about 8 hours with 2. I think...

Technique for first sour beer - advice needed

Brewed this up yesterday afternoon, drained off 1.25 gallons of wort, cooled to 100, dropped pH to 4.5, and added one L. plantarum capsule's contents to it. As of this morning (~18 hours later) no drop in pH. Added one more capsule as I was hoping to complete it tonight. We'll see what it...

Technique for first sour beer - advice needed

Nice! Exactly the sort of result i'm looking for. I read that with- 1. having already got the wort hot enough to kill any bugs living on the grains, and 2. using a pure culture like the probiotic capsule, then the likelihood of any other things taking hold and causing off flavors with slight...

Technique for first sour beer - advice needed

Thanks yall. Just starting with kettle sour since it's quick and I'm just trying to get my feet wet. Don't have the patience to wait 6 months for 1 gallon of beer, plus i think it'll be a great summertime beer while it's still hot as hades outside.

Technique for first sour beer - advice needed

Like many i've become more interested in sour beers recently, and would like to experiment with brewing one. I plan to brew a blue moon clone and pull off one gallon after the mash to kettle sour over the weekend. I'd just like to explain my proposed process and get feedback/advice/critiques...

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

I will later this weekend. To be clear, carbonation wasn't prevented, it occurred at high psi (30) and then was lost over the course of a week after it was dropped to serving pressure (12). I've never taken apart a QD or gas post so not familiar with the components, but after playing with the...

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

thanks yall. right now i'm just moving the "good" quick disconnect from one keg to another depending on what i want a taste of, inconvenient but effective. Per keg connection a replacement is on the way.

Reasons to go all grain vs extract??

True... I brew on the stovetop but I have gas. 3.5 gallon batches are about my sweet spot.

Reasons to go all grain vs extract??

If you do brew in a bag you literally only need a bigger pot and a bag.

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

Here it is now after several days being on the "good" gas quick disconnect.

Reasons to go all grain vs extract??

Brew in a bag makes it super, super easy to move to all grain, and since you like hefeweizens, something like EdWort's Bavarian Hefeweizen is about the easiest (and quickest) thing to brew and is absolutely delicious. That combination makes for very minimal investment for a high quality result...

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

I purged 5 or 6 times at about 30 psi, so it's possible i underpurged and in the future i'll use more. However, this is the same process I've used for all of my kegged beers, and i've only had this problem on two as described. I THINK i've figured out the issue... As i said above, i heard a...

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

So what you're saying is that a small leak will allow C02 to escape but will be continually replaced by more C02, therefore causing no noticeable change in the pressure of the keg or the system as a whole. That makes sense. That being said, I just opened the kegerator and pulled out the...

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

Today's goal after work will be to rule out any leaks... Although it really seems like it would have drained my c02 tank by now, five kegs in and two potentially with leaks. Yes both beers are at the same temp and both have c02 rushing out when I pull the PRV. I describe my carbonation...

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

Or, is it possible to have a leak that's slow enough to not materially affect my C02 tank level but fast enough to cause this problem in two beers?

Help: Why do I occassionally have zero head on kegged beers?

It seems like both times this has happened the beer/head was fine when it was the only tapped keg in my kegerator, but then when i added a second keg and hooked it up to the same regulator via the WYE splitter, that's when beer #1 started to go flat/lose head. Wondering if it could be an issue...
